The body of actress Mary Mara was found on Sunday in the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent, New York, according to a news release Monday from the New York State Police.
Authorities responded to a call on Sunday morning about a “possible drowning,” the release said.
They arrived at the scene and “discovered a female deceased in the St. Lawrence River.”
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim drowned while swimming,” the news release said.

Mara, 61, was in numerous shows and movies throughout her career.
She was best known for her roles on the television shows “ER,” “Ray Donovan” and “Nash Bridges,” CNN reported.
In “ER,” Mara had a recurring role as prostitute Loretta Sweet.
More recently, in the Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” she appeared as Mrs. Sullivan, the wife of Sully Sullivan, HITC News reported.
“Ray Donovan” actor James Woods paid tribute to her on Twitter, saying Mara “was a delight. Brilliant and inventive. A true artist.”
Mara also appeared in “Dexter,” “The Practice” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
“Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met,” her manager, Craig Dorfman, said in a statement to CNN.
“I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in ‘Mad Forest’ off Broadway. She was electric, funny, and a true individual. Everyone loved her. She will be missed,” he said.
According to a family representative, she was staying with her sister, Martha Mara, in her summer home that is along the St. Lawrence River, Cinema Blend reported.
Mara is survived by two sisters, a stepdaughter, a brother-in-law and a nephew.

Sexual abuse is rampant in the industry. Even A+ actresses have to allow their bodies to be used in order to get parts. The only exceptions are perhaps daughters of powerful industry leaders.
So, when I hear stories like this, my assumption, in suicides and overdoses, is that the lifestyle finally got to them and took their life.

That has to be some coldfreeking water. Not something a sane person would jump into on a whim. Wonder if she was a regular at it or dressed for the cold? I guess if she was discovered on the surface she didn’t have a klinton brick tied to a foot?
And then we had the artiste swimmer pass out and sink in a pool. Maybe the clotshots are a fakter?
Cape Vincent is at the start of the Thousand Islands. Absolutely beautiful place in the summer. I bet the water was cold as hell.
That same thought has often crossed my mind. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I believe the vast majority of Hollywood women have used their bodies to advance their interests, I think a good many of them may have allowed themselves to be used repeatedly or passed around. Is abortion somewhere in that mix? And then later in life all that corrosive guilt and shame just take its toll and overwhelm.
Whenever I watch old/older movies and see beautiful women I do a search on their lives. I am still blown away how often these beautiful leading women had such tragic, heartbreaking lives that have all the earmarks of being really messed up.
The only thing different is that a lot of social stigmas have now been muted. Nevertheless, the internal damage is the same and the price must always somehow be paid.
