Canada could be on the cusp of a bizarre new era in which federal regulators will be empowered to figure out whether our online porn is sufficiently Canadian — and levy the requisite punishments if it isn’t.
Bill C-11 — the Liberal push to subject much of the internet to CRTC control — has passed the House of Commons with NDP and Bloc Québécois support. Absent any major revisions by the Senate, the likes of Netflix, YouTube and even Instagram will soon be forced to subject their content to Canada’s famously onerous strictures on Canadian content.
But less discussed is how Bill C-11 will also apply to the internet’s vast wilderness of streaming pornography. The legislation applies to all programs broadcast via “online undertaking.”
The most controversial aspect of Bill C-11 is how it would force online streamers to “ensure the discoverability of Canadian programming.”
Right now, YouTube uses complex algorithms to pair users with content they might find interesting. Under C-11, those algorithms would be tweaked by federal mandate to disproportionately pair users with content that regulators have deemed to be sufficiently Canadian. Non-Canadian content, meanwhile, would need to be artificially hidden. As to what content qualifies as Canadian, everything from Netflix feature films to basement YouTubers would need to submit to the CRTC’s onerous “points system.” Under the system — which is already mandatory for TV channels — content creators must file detailed budgets with the CRTC to prove minimum quotas of Canadian actors, Canadian crew and even the quantity of production costs that were verifiably spent in Canada.

I won’t forget the nice, 4-color printed cards placed under my windshield wiper most nights advertising escort services. I never followed up on those, but that must have been where they were!
Second City is a comedy improv troupe & theater started in Chicago, which later opened branches in Los Angeles and Toronto. I went to their Los Angeles theater in the 1990s.
They still have branches in all three cities according to their website
SCTV was a Canadian show, featuring members of Second City's Toronto branch.
One way to stop it is forced castration. I’m surprised that it was not considered since the gun debate is going on. Liberals love to micro manage society and taking away the male genitals of the good guys as well as the bad guys seem to be something a liberal lefty might do.
I met a Canadian in the 1990s who hated the Mounties. Saw them as an oppressive police force.
Lately, I've been hearing that the Mounties are as bad as the FBI. Very woke, promoting "diversity, equity and inclusion," and seeing "white supremacists" everywhere.
IIRC Ackroyd and Gilda Radner also came from Second City Toronto.
First they ruined bacon, now this.
Careful. You said “heel’s up” and the VP suddenly awoke.
Where have all the Benton Frasers gone?
Due South the series.
The choice is clear, considering all the mounting that will occur.
Blame Canada
With all their hockey hullabaloo and that bitch Anne Murray too!
A ton huh? How many chicks would that be?
And metric enough, no doot ...
Never thought about it but Hockey Porn must be a thing in Canada.
“Wow, your stick is so big and hard…”
“You should see me control it. Want some lessons?…”
That’s an idea that will never happen, human beings are flawed, nothing will ever change that
Whack that thang and fill my net!
Everybody must wear a tuke now?
