Tennis legend Chris Evert has opened up about how her younger sister's devastating death from ovarian cancer helped to 'save her life', revealing how her sibling's battle with the disease prompted her to undergo testing - allowing her own cancer to be detected incredibly early.

The 67-year-old offered a candid glimpse into her cancer battle for an upcoming episode of HBO's Real Sports, with GMA airing a preview clip on Monday morning - in which Evert is seen undergoing her final rounds of chemo, while paying tribute to her late sister Jeanne Evert Dubin.

'My sister's death saved my life,' she shares in the teaser, revealing how she received a call from Jeanne's geneticist following her death alerting her to a 'new mutation' in her sibling's BRCA gene, which the doctor encouraged her to get tested.

'I just feel so fortunate that... if it wasn't for the call that I received from my sister's geneticist saying that Jeanne's BRCA... they had found a new mutation,' she added.

I can't find any articles that mention her variant.

Here are some of them.

https://bmccancer.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12885-019-5950-4/tables/2

I always struggle to interpret these variants

Anyone know if you have rs80359082 G/G do you have the pathogenic variant which is the last one on the table

I hope she fully recovers and never has to deal with it again.

As a cancer survivor myself, I agree!

Plus, she's my all-time favorite woman tennis player. Classy.

The hottest ever is Anna Kournikova.
She wasn’t that good at tennis though...

Having lost a beloved family member to ovarian cancer, I understand why it is so deadly. It usually has no symptoms until a very late stage. I also have two friends who survived it because it was found early only because doctors were checking for something else.

God bless Chris Evert. May she achieve full recovery and enjoy many more years of good health.

My mother and fellow freeper died after being clear of ovarian cancer for over 5 years. They have gotten so good at the ovarian part that women are living longer but there is a very unfortunate pathway to brain tumors. That was 8 years ago so hoping they have gotten better at brain tumors as well. Hoping for the best for one of the best tennis players ever.

Here is the test you can ask for. Insurance may not pay for it early on unless you have relatives with issue or genetics

Inhibin A and B

It’s not the most common test ordered but just do it. It doesn’t mean you will have cancer but it means you better be paying attention that something might be wrong.

Also if it runs in the family get yearly ultrasounds. they aren’t very expensive.

btw, you can’t order the Inhibin tests from Direct Labs so you are going to have to convince your Dr that you want the test and you dont care if insurance pays for it. I highly recommend it if Breast or Ovarian cancer has shown up in your family.

oh one more thing...this test is good if you have passed menopause. If not...it becomes more difficult to use it.

Good for her. Continued prayers for her recovery. Chemo did not work for me. My ovarian cancer came back. Hopefully my doctors will find another chemo drug that will work for me.
