Heavy marijuana use among youths is leading to more addiction and antisocial behavior.
... Mass shooters at Rep. Gibby Giffords’s constituent meeting in Tucson, Ariz. (2011), a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. (2012), the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla. (2016), the First Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas (2017), and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. (2018), were reported to be marijuana users. It could be a coincidence, but increasing evidence suggests a connection.
THC, the chemical that causes a euphoric high, interacts with the brain’s neuron receptors involved with pleasure. Marijuana nowadays on average is about four times as potent as in 1995. But dabs—portions of concentrated cannabis—can include 20 times as much THC as joints did in the 1960s.
...Cannabis-induced psychosis, she said, is fairly common. Some patients she treated experienced cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome from long-term use, which causes “scromiting”—screaming and vomiting. There’s no antidote. Some patients spend weeks in the emergency room waiting for placement in mental-health clinics.
...Some legalization proponents claim that other countries where marijuana is widely available have fewer mental-health problems than the U.S. But a study from Denmark last summer found that schizophrenia cases associated with pot addiction have increased three- to fourfold over the past 20 years as marijuana potency rose 200%.
...Maybe it’s time that lawmakers and voters rethink their pot-legalization experiment before more young lives are damaged.

They also tend to become pot evangelists. What other drug causes its users to become proselytizers?
LOL!
Popcorn time.
Ya wanna a drug that makes people extremely violent? Try alcohol...Ask any cop.
Rep. Gibby Giffords....who can ever forget her?
all too predictable.
“THC, the chemical that causes a euphoric high”
All it ever did for me was make me stupid...er......and broker.
Aw come on.
Marijuana is now given as a prescription drug!
It does NOT make you violent. It makes you mellow, hungry and sleepy.
Which is not to say that abuse of most anything can cause problems.
“Moderation in all things”.....should be our motto, be it alcohol, cannabis and I suppose some drugs but I will stop there.
The days of mild seed-filled joints are long gone. Now kids inhale super concentrated dabs and such...not good.
Neighbor cannabis smoker suggested the hyperemesis was caused by pressure on nerves by clothes over digestive tract, especially at belt line. The top button on pants seemed to hit a pressure point that caused the discomfort.
There is a MUCH stronger correlation of tobacco use in schizophrenics than there is for cannabis. 50-80% of schizos are tobacco users depending on the study. Yet we understand the mentally ill are simply more likely to use tobacco for the calming effects and don’t jump to the conclusion that tobacco “may have” caused their mental illness.
In a twin study of 400+ twins to determine actual causation, ZERO brain differences were detected in the cannabis abusing twins.
While twins abusing alcohol were shown to have brain damage by age 24!

“Ya wanna a drug that makes people extremely violent? Try alcohol...Ask any cop.”
These people were already violent.
Kind of like guns, everybody wants to blame the mechanism,
when the real problem is the person using it.
In many venues it’s legal and should have been decades ago. Throwing people in cages and seizing their assets over something as mundane as pot, when compared to mass murdering alcohol, is insane IMO. And over the course of many decades, government made criminals of millions of Americans over pot. It’s a disgrace. And all it did was significantly grow the size of government in every direction.
Really? So someone who’s never been violent would never get violent while drunk?
You need to get out more. Trust me here.
Not just that but what other drugs were the shooters on? What prescription drugs?
Including excess!
I’ve never met a violent pot smoker. Alcohol is another story. Most drug users (meth, et al) use pot to sleep, so there is crossover. Violent folks are on something else.
You’re not putting the genie back in the bottle on this one.
