“I saw a review by a FReeper yesterday and he said he liked it, but his description sounded pretty woke with overly “diverse” cast and a mean-spirited female Hispanic and a dufus white guy.”
The “diverse” cast was less diverse than 95% of the commercials on TV every day. I don’t recall any mean-spirited females. There was a dark-haired woman; maybe she was Hispanic. She was fine. The white guy, Bob, wasn’t a doofus. More like a capable smart nerd. (Nerds are good.)
Anyhow, that’s my take.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I would agree that Cruise can play a “masculine” part if it is required...These people are probably trying to refer to Cruise’s actual persona and NOT his acting...

I went to a drive in located in twentynine palms, can a year or two ago. Sat in the back of my 89 YJ and had a hell of a time. Very enjoyable. Santee also has a nice one back when I used to live in San Diego.
Drive Ins need to make a comeback.

Beth Dutton would kick Tom’s kiester or any Hollyweird prettyboy but Maverick would probably think she was a real good time, masculine and all both. Like the real Maverick wild horses.

He was pretty good in “The War of the Worlds.” Played a savvy and resourceful working class guy, and a divorced father. He was very credible.

that’s how we did it when i was in high school ... the last drive-in movie i remember going to see was “Night of the Living Dead” ... me, my brother, sister, and some cousins ... we were completely blitzed on some killer marajujuana, and scared each other so badly we didn’t get past the opening graveyard scene before we had to leave ...

All I know is “ Last Samurai” one of my all time favorite movies! Absolutely agree. That was a well-done movie by all involved.

"..He was pretty good in “The War of the Worlds.."Loved the effects. But the idiot kids were extremely annoying.
If ya hadta take a shot every time he said "Rachel" you'd be schnockered by mid-movie. Caught myself rooting for the Martians a time-r-two. d;^)

I just rewatched “Last Samurai” a month ago. It is an astounding movie. It was really a pleasure to watch again after nearly 20 years not seeing it.

This is the best thing to come out of Hollyweird in many years. It will be an ENORMOUS hit because it is a near perfect action flick.
Like it or him or not, Tom Cruise IS the best action film actor of this generation. Funny how people in this thread try to down play their affection for Cruise but then add, "well, he was really good in 'X'", and every one names a different movie. LOL
You have all just unwittingly conspired to confirm that Tom Cruise is an amazing actor. Look at his body of work, which is incredible up to this point, and NOW he is about to top all of them with Top Gun:Maverick? Just wow.
I'll be seeing it again on the big screen. This is my vote telling Hollyweird THIS is what qualifies as a good show. More please!

I won’t pay to see it, just because they erased the Taiwanese flag.

Went to see it tonight.
Pretty good. Not deep but it served up everything you could want in a action movie.
And they did not go for the cheap and easy hits. And I am firmly on Team Bob. Sorry, but I found him adorable.

It was solid 80's fare, the missus liked it better than I did. At least it wasn't chock-full of woke stupidity.
The movie was double-featured with "The Lost City." That was only the second time in my life I walked (or in this case, drove) out of a movie. Utter snooze-inducing woke crap. Don't anyone spend money on that one. Wait for it to show up in the Dollar General bargain bin in 8 weeks.
To: I-ambush
I liked him in “War of the Worlds,” too. I haven’t watched every movie he ever made, but he was great in every movie I ever saw him in.
