So can I ask directly: “Do you use galanga root and fresh mushrooms,” or will they tend to fib on that stuff?
By far the very best tacos I ever had were served to me by a woman who operated food stand under a stairway in Guadalajara. Gold is where you find it.
I would not be the be one to answer that. Perhaps MMTU could chime in. And I doubt that an correct answer would be forthcoming from most wait staff.
There is something about the Thai and Vietnamese restaurants that I frequent that combines the idea of umami with other flavors of their country, to make a spectacular dish.
I have tried at home and it just doesn’t turn out the same.
So for $8.95 a bowl, I just let the pros cook for me.
I live Thailand long time. That ain’t Thai food. Back country Thai food is very fresh.
When we lived in Des Moines, Taste of Thai was our favorite. It was owned by Prasong Nurak who is now in the Thai Senate.
Can you actually get it Thai hit there?
Sounds good. I was in San Antonio last night for my son’s birthday dinner. A party of about 10. We ate at Dashi, a sichuan chinese food restaurant/bar. It was amazing. Duck, lamb chops, shrimp and the sauces were unbelievable! Service was outstanding. Can’t remember a better meal.
I don’t think that comment was necessary.
That sounds real good.
Thailand?!?
Tom kha gai is my favourite Thai dish, and it’s my barometer, just like you. It’s a delicate soup, so balance of flavours is essential. I’ve lived more than half my life in S.E. Asia, so I feel that I’m a fair food critic.
When I lived in Del Valle some 15-20 years ago there was a Thai place on the way to Bastrop with excellent food, especially the curry, and it was the only place where one could get Singh Ha beer. Is it still there?
Go to the website for this place and read. Thanet’s relative did have a Thai restaurant there, but closed it down in 2014, I think. He and his wife have re-opened the spot, if I’m correct. All I know is the food is good. They have a history comment on the website.
The two best Thai take-out places around here are inside gas-station convenience stores. There are tables to eat there but the ambiance is lousy.
