A candy store employee is facing murder charges after allegedly attacking a woman outside the Tacoma store with a "samurai-like" sword.

Abdelhakim Choubabi, 52, murdered the woman outside the Candy Market in the 700 block of Market Street around 7:50 p.m. on April 30, according to court records.

Tacoma police say they were called to the scene by a resident nearby who saw what they described as a woman being hit multiple times with a pole of some kind.

The woman was found dead from multiple stab wounds about 20 feet outside the store entrance. Choubabi, though, had left in a vehicle the store owner owns.

Officers say they soon learned the woman was homeless and stayed in the area for quite some time. Not long later, Choubabi returned. Officers arrested him and took him to TPD headquarters.

There, Choubabi allegedly admitted to killing her, even saying he planned to do it.

Court records say Choubabi told them the victim had stolen items from the store the same day and he was "tired" of her stealing, "smelling bad" and her urinating outside the store.

He even told police he called them earlier in the day to have her move but nothing was done because she was moving away by the time they got there.

Later, she allegedly went back in and stole condoms and sunglasses. This time, Choubabi told police he went outside and took the merchandise back, leading to her hitting him in the back of the head with something.

Choubabi said he kept walking into the store, grabbed the sword, came outside and hit the woman in the face with it before stabbing her.

Choubabi said the woman did not have any weapons on her and was lying down underneath a blanket when he stabbed her. Police searched the store and did find what they call a "samurai-like sword."

Stop enforcing the law and it is up to citizens to enforce it.

Your choice.

That gives me little, if any, solace. But I see your point.

this is on the cops and the "justice" system....they are driving good people mad....

is this what you want Tacoma? Seattle?....you want people to feel that they are on their own with the criminals.....

well you got your wish....

keep letting the criminals roam free....

That a shame. That clerk should have known better than to risk damaging a fine collector's item like that. Next time, grab the Louisville Slugger.

"Police searched the store and did find what they call a "samurai-like sword."

To the untrained eye, samurai-like swords can easily be confused with ninja-like swords.

Costly but he made his point.

A minor offense may be the hill a man decides to die on.

Homeless woman: “I’m going into that store, and I’m going to steal some stuff.”
Friend: “Really? What if they catch you?”
Homeless woman: “Oh, it will be easy! Like stealing candy from a crazy lady with a samurai sword.”

Don’t need to read past that to get the picture.

Maybe that’s what leftist cities want: just let the citizens deal with the criminals. And if they mess up—which they will—arrest ‘em for taking the law into their own hands. A lot easier to find and apprehend an otherwise law-abiding citizen than to mess with dangerous criminals.

I feel sorry for what this man went through every day and I can see why he snapped....but don't say anything after something like this.

She had probably watched too many of those SF Walgreen’s robberies on TikTok.
