One of the dogs died after being stabbed, said Jaime Morales, whose face was also mauled in the incident.
The girl, identified by her family as Ruby Cervantes, was taken to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center with multiple bites to her face and body.
She was undergoing surgery and is expected to survive.
The girl’s aunt was also injured in the incident.
The family says the dogs have never been aggressive prior to Sunday’s incident.

Pit bulls are like “moderates” — they seem to respect you until they try to take you down in the name of civility and wanting to get along with the alpha dogs.
How dare she protect her child and use least invasive force. Book her Newsom.
yeah, this is so out of the ordinary for them, you know, they would bark like crazy at anyone walking by, and they would chase and kill local cats that would poop in our yard, and they bit that one mailman on the leg but that was nothing, and I forget that one time they almost killed each other over a bone. Other than that they were the sweetest dogs ever
And everyone loved them. They were just turning their lives around.
I just don’t understand why anyone with children would ever have a pit bull for a pet. I hear these stories far to often.
They’re never aggressive until they are.
They are very avoidant about it in the article, but I’m reading it as if it were their dogs that attacked their own kid.

Heartbreaking for the little girl...
Praying that God will give the doctors wisdom and guide their hands, and that He will heal her little body.
Tough situation all around legally.
For my Little girl, those animals would have been found in pieces.
Maybe save the pelts to show my daughter in the future, for when she has nightmares of being attacked, the animals are dead and gone, and cannot hurt her ever again.
Neighbors have a pit bull that is great with little kids. My daughter has one that is great too. A friend takes in pit bull rescues - he says they were previously known as “nanny dogs” as they were so good around kids.
But yeah - I think their “nature” includes attacking.
Heck - any dog can attack. But the pit’s jaws are so much more powerful than most other dogs.
Seems to happen more with multiples, rather than well-socialized single pets. You have to absolutely be a dominant alpha to these as well.
My belief: One Pit Bull ... one 9mm... problem solved.

Number of reasons to have a pit bull around a child...zero.
Put all of them to sleep, and erase their genetic line from history.
