Why Ross Perot's candidacy was bad for America

Posted on 04/12/2022 11:39:09 AM PDT by TakebackGOP

I know people like to bash the Bush Family, but GHWB was better than Bill Clinton. Perot's candidacy accomplished nothing, because the Republican Establishment didn't change. After Clinton was elected, the GOP supported NAFTA. They didn't even change after Trump won the Presidency. 9/11 may not have happened had Republican presidents been in there instead of Clinton. We also would have reformed the GOP earlier, because it took 8 years of GWB for the right to support conservative challengers against RINOs. I have heard that Perot was a good man.

Perot began the end of the Uni Party.

Perot was ahead in the polls until he inexplicably dropped out and then re-entered the race like two weeks later. Americans were finally ready to dump the two-party “choices” at least for one presidential election and he ruined it.

Why do people view politicians like Perot, or Trump as “causes” in themselves?

they represent trends and popular notions, and give voice to problems that exist in society, which perhaps can be suppressed for a while, but not simply erased.

If it wasn’t them - someone else would have eventually come forward to represent the same ideas.

“I know people like to bash the Bush Family, but GHWB was better than Bill Clinton.”

Besides a few cultural style points, there is very little difference in policy.

He claimed that Bush operatives threatened to out his daughter as a lesbian. I’m not sure if that was true or if that was a cover story for being blackmailed by Clinton.

Perot vs any Bush? No contest.

Perot was an outsider. He was naive. He dropped the ball when the Deep State became threatened him in some way. The Deep State made Perot an offer he couldn't refuse.

A pox upon all the Bush Crime Family, the born and the unborn.

I agree the Perot run helped elect Clinton, instead of GHWBush.

However, as to: “ 9/11 may not have happened had Republican presidents been in there instead of Clinton”; I disagree.

There was very little different thinking coming from the U.S. intelligence apparatus, regarding Osama Bin Laden, between the Dims and the GOP, before 9/11. Clinton erred, but until 9/11 so did Bush, in fact GWBush made few real changes in the intelligtence apparatus whose who, until after 9/11.

9/11 was an bi-partisan intelligence failure.

Good for you to be speak candidly and truthfully.

You are correct.

Ross Perot was allowed to be a part of the Commission on Presidential Debates event as a deliberate sabotage of Bush’s re-election. It is symptomatic of the ideological manipulation of political messaging in the United States designed to insure that democrats when elections as easily as possible.

There is no way Clinton would have won without Perot dividing the American political base. Bill and Hillary Clinton are intrinsically corrupt politicians There was no upside to his election.

The public did express its ascendant conservative desires in 1994 by installing Newt Gingrich as House speaker. This ushered in the first major era of Republican control. I actually believe that era is continuing despite all the systemic setbacks rooted in message manipulations like the CPD.

I do agree that Perot was a kind of proto- Trump but that is irrelevant to how the manipulators of politics used Perot to install clinton with less than 50% of the vote won by the Democrats. The installers thought they had a chump in Trump 2016 and were genuinely shocked and outraged when the public elected him.

We must break the epistemological hold of anti-American institutions.

Why do people view politicians like Perot, or Trump as “causes” in themselves?

Good question. I had my positions and then Trump came along. He partly aligned with me - one notable thing missing, Trump didn't reduce the size of government. I'm not much for causes or movements.

Not true. Trump ran and won on a platform of restructuring NAFTA. it took 26 years and a lost American manufacturing base, but DJT won and the Republican Establishment will never be the same.

Don’t assume Perot took votes from Bush. The two fold problem there is that we really don’t know who people would have voted for without him on the ballot, and votes don’t belong to any candidate. A candidate’s job is to EARN votes. Bush didn’t earn enough, he lost. That’s the whole story.

When the jihadists attacked us on 9/11 my first thought was I was glad Bush was in the WH instead of Algore.

Until Bush started saying there'd be no treaty signing moment like there was on the USS Missouri to end the war on Japan, that we'd be fighting the "war on terror", whatever that is, for the rest of our lives, that we'll "win over hearts and minds", etc. That told me Bush intended for us to be in a forever war.

If we had gone into Afghanistan and Pakistan (even before we knew Osama was in Pakistan it was common knowledge at the time that Pakistan was as joined at the hip to Al Qaeda as Afghanistan was) and killed however many people it took for those nations/regimes to surrender, it'd been over in 6 months to a year, tops.

There's a reason, son, it was seven decades between the Pearl Harbor attack and 9/11. We taught Japan and everybody else paying attention that attacking the United States of America is very unhealthy. A few generations later was long enough for the jihadists to forget what was taught to Japan -- and we failed to educate the goat humpers in the middle east.

There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the Clintons and the Bushes. They are all globalists.

It’s populism. It sells. It can also be fascistic. Trump needs to lighten up. Voters were naive when it came to Perot but he pushed some necessary buttons while talking big. Pat Buchannan helped divide the party but he was Trump before Trump.

Bush League Republicans do just enough to keep the base quiet but not enough to make a real difference. I was too young to form an opinion of Arbusto-41 when he was in office but I, like many Freepers here, supported Arbusto-43 up until about 2006 when he pushed for amnesty.
