‘Oceania Had Always Been at War With Eurasia’: Corporate Media Shifts Public Enemy #1 Overnight

Actually, as Winston well knew, it was only four years since Oceania had been at war with Eastasia and in alliance with Eurasia. But that was merely a piece of furtive knowledge which he happened to possess because his memory was not satisfactorily under control. Officially the change of partners had never happened.

Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. The enemy of the moment always represented absolute evil, and it followed that any past or future agreement with him was impossible.

-George Orwell, 1984

The smoothness with which the corporate media redirects its viewers’ base emotional response — emanating from the deepest reptilian caverns of the medulla oblongata, the “lizard brain” — is… uncanny, other-worldly, jaw-dropping.

No combination of adjectives could do justice to this most marvelous of propaganda coups over the human psyche.

Almost overnight, sometime in February 2022, the corporate left’s Public Enemy #1 morphed from the much-maligned “anti-vaxxer” murdering their grandmother by COVID breath into a Russian:

“The vaccinated also say, almost unanimously (88%), that Russia is guilty of war crimes in Ukraine, while only 32% of unvaxxed respondents agree, and 42% say they don’t believe it is happening at all.”

What is this? Sounds like nonsense. Sounds like it’s saying there’s nothing wrong with Putin’s unjust and unprovoked invasion of the Ukraine and the brutality millions of its people.

Reading 1984 should be the price of admission to Freeperville. Great book.

What part of “THERE IS NO GOOD GUY HERE” don’t you understand?

This story is about how the media has done a “SQUIRREL!” by completely changing the narrative from how EEEEEEVIL those opposed to mandatory injections are, to: Russia/Putin BAD BAD BAD!

It has NOTHING to do with Ukraine.

There is no good guy here. Correct.

I’d be for tossing out Putin, Zelensky and Biden all at once. This all smells bad to high heaven.

This was a good read that summarizes the past 2 years.

The “2 minutes hate” in 1984 makes so much sense now...I feel like we’re living it.

Orwell was a sage. He knew not the new technology of the future but did predict much of it. He knew exactly what would be done with it.

On Portobello Road in London is a small blue plaque showing the residence of Orwell. Then the low rent district but today high dollar. I gazed up to the second floor window and was amazed at the brilliance that was written there.

Oddly he completed 1984 on the Isle of Jura in Scotland. A beautiful place in the summer but a bleak stormy hell in winter. No electricity just a paraffin stove for heat. It was a most appropriate place to finish his greatest book.

His second greatest book was “Letters from Catalonia.” He went to Spain and fought for the communists. In Spain he discovered what communism really was. He saw the beast. He came back to England as a quasi libertarian light socialist. If he had lived another 20 years (he died of tuberculosis) he would have been a conservative libertarian. He was a great man.

Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia. The enemy of the moment always represented absolute evil, and it followed that any past or future agreement with him was impossible.

Disregarding for a moment the propaganda spread by the Ministry of Truth (Minitru), isn't is logical to assume that there must have been periods of times when Oceania would have been at war with both Eurasia and Eastasia simultaneously?

After all: Why shouldn't those other two powers also have occasionally combined forces to fight Oceania?

Hitler and Stalin were brutal enemies in ww2. Recognizing that both were villains is wisdom. Trying to decide which one is the villain is foolishness.

Well, Putin certainly helped these liars and deceivers along those lines and his utter death and destruction of millions of innocent Ukrainians kind of eclipses the COVID totalitarianism of the Left.

You don’t have to scream at me Don W. I get it it. Maybe better than you.

False analogy here. Putin brutally and destructively invaded the Ukraine without provocation leaving a wake of death and destruction. I see no justification for that. I can’t believe the unprovoked and unjustified brutality he has waged upon the Ukraine and her citizens.

“False analogy here. Putin brutally and destructively invaded the Ukraine without provocation”

That’s just your point of view.

If it is a false anology could you demonstrate it? Just pointing out Putin was wrong to attack without provocation hardly does so, for Hitler attacked without provocation. And yet Stalin was still a very bad guy. Not saying Stalin started the war, rather Hitler did. And yet I do say both were bad people to be ruled by. And both are worthy of condemnation. For Stalin that condemnation is not for starting the war he had with Hitler though. But the fact Stalin was innocent of that particular wrong doing hardly makes Stalin even remotely ok.

Lot of problems here.

First, even though you don’t come right out and say it, you’re obviously comparing Stalin to Zelensky. I think Zelensky who is apparently not the greatest, is hardly a Stalin who murdered tens of millions of Russian citizens. So yes, a false analogy.

Beyond the false analogy, nations are sovereign and generally not subject to invasion by another nation.

Third and given the above, I don’t see how anyone can justify Putin’s death and destruction upon millions of innocent Ukrainians.

It’s astonishing to me that people here at FR, where life, freedom, and just action are supposed to be the standard can support Putin’s unjustifiable bloody actions here.

First, even though you don’t come right out and say it, you’re obviously comparing Stalin to Zelensky.

Well in the sense that Hitler attacked Stalin and Stalin was at fault, yes. That comparison fits.

I think Zelensky who is apparently not the greatest, is hardly a Stalin who murdered tens of millions of Russian citizens. So yes, a false analogy.

I was not comparing Zelensky to Stalin in how bad I thought the were. I was allowing that like Stalin, Zelensky might be bad even though he was unfairly attacked.

The rest of your "problems" I think build on an misunderstanding you inserted into my point.
