For comparison, most bikes used in the Tour de France probably average between $15,000 and $20,000.

FOX31 story:Boulder Police search for $80,000 in stolen bikes
by: Jim Hooley
Apr 1, 2022
BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Boulder Police are trying to find whoever broke into a Boulder bike company and stole three high-tech bikes.
In total, the three bikes are worth more than $80,000.
The thieves broke into Driven Technologies on Wilderness Place. Police believe they used a rock to smash the glass of the front door sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
One of the bikes is worth $40,000 alone. It’s a heavily modified, high-tech triathlon bike with a drive shaft like a car, instead of a chain.
The other bikes include a full suspension mountain bike worth $30,000 and a $12,000 specialized mountain bike.
If you have any information, please call the Boulder Police at (303) 441-3333 or our partners at Metro Denver Crimestoppers.

These would be a lot cheaper if they were in production. I don’t see much value in them, except to a manufacturer. Patents applied for?

The Cervelos are one-off prototypes. Only ones of their kind.

Bikes with the shaft drive system are so unusual, there is no way to fence them. Really wonder what the thief is planning too do with the bikes.

Two of the bikes had unique prototype technology. They'd be recognized immediately if anyone was seen using them in competition or in any bike club.
More likely the thieves will try to sell them to a competitor high end bike manufacturer who would probably turn them.
I know a guy who had a computer repair shop and copied a client's client data file and tried to sell the info to a competitor of the client. That competitor notified the client and the guy was busted.

Fortunately the police have a good lead. Surveillance cameras caught one of the culprits making his get-way.

I wouldn’t pay $5 for one of those seats. A rider would have to have grudge against his crotch to pound it against that miniature anvil.

Hideous ridiculous and idiotic machines.
Tour de France? PFFTTT Why don’t they allow recumbents?
For some reason after a recumbent won the 1st TDF they said, nope only stupid ass-crack bikes are allowed from now on.
Recumbents don’t make your junk numb either. I laugh at these posers in lycra going by hunched over on those stupid things.
