IVY TECH of Indiana is now WOKE...from email....
"On Friday, June 17, the College will be closed in honor of Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
By recognizing this holiday, we continue to advance our work in diversity, equity, and belonging while encouraging our employees to engage with their local communities in meaningful ways. Observing Juneteenth as a College holiday aligns with Ivy Tech’s strategic plan and allows us all to pause and reflect on how we can be more intentional with our commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging"
Juneteenth is a TEXAS holiday and was never a national commemoration until Obama and the DNC launched their civil war on the US
RIGHT
I was really committed to Deb in my freshman year, but we drifted apart the following summer and she found a new boyfriend. I always wonder what could have been.
My corporation has bought into the holiday too, meh, another day off.
I’d be okay with that statement if they also mentioned it was a Republican president who freed slaves being held by Democrats.
that’s what I say...MLK now this...ribs watermelon and ripple
Should this school be in a state called Indiana?
As the 19th falls on a Sunday, I saw on my company’s list of Holidays this year that I have Monday the 20th off for “Juneteenth”. Silly, but I’ll take it, I suppose.
Soon we are going to be like Europe with all these “holidays”.
Amen
Oh great...
it’s that frigging Juneteenth time again.
wasn’t it just black history month?
UGH can’t take it no more..
just shut of the tv...
As a Civil War buff, I have to confess that I’m not averse to celebrating Gordon Granger Day, but I’d celebrate Grant, Sherman, Thomas and Meade memorial days first. The interesting question would be whether to use the birthday or the anniversary of their most celebrated Civil War moment. For Granger, the observed date should probably be September 20 for the second day at Chickamauga, but as a practical matter, defaulting to Juneteenth and making it a twofer holiday is probably ok.
Yes
I doubt they mention a REPUBLICAN president and REPUBLICAN congresses ended slavery and passed the 13th -15th Amendments.
