I once flew to Huntington, West Virginia to go into that part of the state of Ohio to drill a few oil wells. I was in a restaurant and the waitress was all excited because Okrah was there doing an expose on American poverty.

Voting and vote counting has been on Auto-Pilot since 1960.

Poor life decisions. That’s why the county is poor, and blue.

When your two largest employers are the county government and a university, it’s no surprise that the place is a leftist dump.

Interesting article, and sad, especially this:
Ty Halley, an in-home healthcare provider who grew up in Athens, voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. “I voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election, and I’d probably vote for him again,” Halley, 35, said. “I think the Democrats could help their applause point better by doing something about the things they say they support—raising [the] minimum wage, improving the environment, canceling student debt …

“I like the social issues,” Halley added. “I’m pro-gay marriage, support raising the minimum wage, and think transgender kids need more protection. I’m pro-choice when it comes to abortion and believe labor unions are important.”
I cannot imagine all those values are shared by the majority of people there. Maybe because they still only have three tv channels? Either way, it's mal-informed voters.

The good news is that, as a percentage of the vote, Trump's 2020 vote was up 2% over 2016 -- bad news is he still lost by 15 points.

this is a great example what kinds of people that indoctrination in our public schools produce. Hold out your hand and some democrat and RINO politician will fill it and people who support democrats and RINOs care not where their freebies come from.

Idle thoughts…

19th Amendment - really? Raise voting age to 28. Only real property owners and/or military vets allowed to vote. Written, driving, and civics tests to get driver license. English-only ballots. If you don’t pay federal taxes, you cannot vote in federal elections. Same for state tax payers.

(half kidding on the 19th)

Sounds like these people could have benefitted from an accidental exposure to a broadcast from Rush while he was alive.

Not from there but I went to college there. The only voting residents are college profs and the generationally poor who choose to stay for whatever reason. There was also a 60s leftover hippie population there when I was in school. Makes for a strange voting base.

More than a third of the voters in the country are college students from the University of Ohio. And then you have all the professors, administrators, country employees, etc..

The locals not affiliated with the University are the minority.

Ohio University.

Happily they don’t matter too much. Ohio went for Trump by 9 points both times.

I do hope to live to see the “improvement of the environment” though.😂

I can’t argue about the 19th... and I think property owners should get TWO votes. I’m tired of apartment dwellers voting to raise property taxes they don’t pay.

I’d also go along with the federal tax qualification, although it would cut out a lot of senior votes.
