Politicians depend on the Media to get elected. Thus, a ideologically unified Media controls the politicians, not the other way around.
Cucker Carlson won’t say a peep about election fraud in the US because that would upset his paymasters, and he doesn’t have the principles to do that.

Why are they terrified of a newspaper reporter? If they have done nothing in their personal and public lives to indicate they are immoral or criminals, they should have nothing to fear.

It does not matter. When you have a media willing to lie, and a court system rigged to protect the media, because politicians are, by nature "public figures", the media has been able to take down most politicians who they dislike.
That is the main reason for Republicans as assistant democrats.
The list of conservative politicians taken down by the Media is long.
Look at Donald Trump as an example.
