Intel plans to build a $19 billion chip plant in Germany

Intel has confirmed plans to build a semiconductor plant in Germany as part of an investment of up to €80 billion ($88 billion) in Europe over the next decade. The initial outlay for the facility in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, is €17 billion ($19 billion).

The so-called “mega-site” will actually comprise two factories. Planning will start right away with construction expected to get under way in the first half of next year, as long as Intel gets the thumbs up from the European Commission. Production should commence at what Intel is calling “Silicon Junction” in 2027. As such, the plant won’t help offset the global chip shortage any time soon.

Intel says the dual plants will build chips using its top-of-the-line Angstrom-era transistor tech. It expects to create 7,000 construction jobs for the duration of the build, 3,000 permanent positions and thousands more jobs across partners and suppliers.

At the center of Europe and with top talent, superb infrastructure and an existing ecosystem of suppliers and customers, Germany is an ideal place to establish a new hub – a “Silicon Junction” – for advanced chipmaking.

Intel processors have fallen way behind Apple’s M series processors.

Chip makers are pretty close to reaching the bottom. Since this technology is about to max out something needs to replace it. What that will be I can only guess. Nature has been making creatures that think for much longer. Perhaps something along those lines.

They're getting close to reaching the state of the possible with some aspects of chip making, but there are plenty of other areas that can be improved upon and many that have never been seriously pursued that will keep physicists, engineers, and mathematicians busy for many years.

Germany and Qatar have agreed upon a long-term energy partnership to help cut reliance on Russian gas over the invasion of Ukraine, German Economic Minister Robert Habeck said Sunday.

Habeck, who is on a two-nation visit to the Arabian Gulf, met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in Doha.

"The day has developed a strong dynamic," Habeck said, adding that the emir had pledged more support than Germany had expected.

"Although we might still need Russian gas this year, in the future it won't be so anymore. And this is only the start," Habeck said.

They could have done that years ago. Now they look like Zelensky on his begging tour.

Germany attempted to build a bridge of peace through economic means but Putin showed he is Soviet Union Nutjob.

This is Germany paying for energy not begging.

My gas bill was a bullion-four last month already, and that was before I moved onto the Patriot Foods dehydrated soups.

I just hope I can make it till the free money/checks during the next Covid go-round!

Sounds like Quantum computing. Having struggled through Quantum Mechanics and Solid State Physics courses I can only admire people who can actually get something done with it.
