I've been waiting a long time for this. Whenever the Webb telescope was in the news it was usually to announce another delay. It started in in 1997 ! It was originally 500 million dollars but ballooned up to 10 billion dollars.
This image is a test image. They picked a star that looked all alone and have been slowly adjusting all the mirrors to focus in upon it. This latest image has all the segments finally all working together as one. What is neat is all the distant galaxies that showed up in the background . This proves this telescope is really doing exactly what it was meant to do: see the galaxies back in time to when the Universe was still young.

The Webb was behind schedule and over budget because the specs kept being changed. Once finally set it went reasonably quick

While looking at NASA's website filled with pictures of the Webb mission one picture in particular caught my attention. One if the VIP's wearing these socks! If you want one , too bad , it's out of stock.
