The solution to the Cubna Missile Crisis was a bit of diplomatic tit-for-tat. We removed our Jupiter missiles (IRBMs) from Turkey (Which were there before the Castro regime!) they remove their versions of that type of missile from Cuba. Look at a map and you will see there’s not much difference range-wise. The JFK-LBJ administrations & cooperating media kept that information well buried and off the front page.
We can go to the mat on this one. I know we can, but why should we? Ain’t this a European problem? If the UK, the French. Or the Germans feel so strongly, than they can send troops now outside of NATO.

And, and this is important, because we never held NATO accountable for their defense spending…they are not prepared for a war. Their people would not tolerate a war.

I’m 72 and grew up under much the same circumstances as you. But I’m not about to support a nuclear war with Russia over Ukraine. Ukraine should permanently revoke its request to join NATO, period, and Europe should defend itself against the Bear. As a minimum, Zelensky should be at the UN pestering and badgering it to solve his problems with a coalition instead of trying to pull the US via NATO into it.
No-fly zones, countless shipments of arms and requests for foreign fighters, demands for sanctions and shutoffs of anything and everything connected with Russia over Ukraine. Correct me, but where was Ukraine this last 5 years doing anything to help the US with our Southern Border invasion?
