‘Like nothing we’ve seen’: US Forces Korea hits pandemic peak with new COVID-19 cases

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — U.S. Forces Korea counted 467 new COVID-19 cases in the week ending Monday, the highest number of infections reported by the command since the pandemic began in March 2020.

USFK reported 457 locally generated coronavirus cases between Dec. 21 and Monday, and another 10 cases among recent arrivals to South Korea.

Army Col. Seth Graves, garrison commander at Camp Humphreys, the largest U.S. base overseas, in an announcement Wednesday on Facebook said the spike in cases “is like nothing we’ve seen here on the installation since the beginning of the pandemic.”

...The command requires its personnel, regardless of their vaccination status, to wear face masks “at all indoor settings on installations” within districts with 50 or more confirmed COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people over a period of seven days.

USFK previously banned all personnel from visiting any of the “hot spot” districts in the country but revoked the restriction last month due to its relatively high vaccination rates and to “better align with” the South Korean government’s plans.

Unvaccinated personnel are still banned from bars, clubs, saunas, off-base gyms and karaoke bars....

the article doesn't differentiate whether it's omi or delta, but a previous article 15 days ago described the Korean hospitalized patients' symptoms as 'moderate to severe'.

Also, the article doesn't give the total cases in the 28K-strong force.

The article also doesn’t say that every single one of the people infected are vaccinated.

Skors are vaccine adverse, but all these soldats were *required* to be vaccinated. How long will it take them to figure out that unvaxxed civilians are far less prone to Covid than healthy US troops?

hospitalized patients’ symptoms as ‘moderate to severe’.

why would you be in hospital with only moderate symptoms???

I would suggest that guys who are in a barracks situation and under normal ‘home-quarantine’...don’t have ready access to food, and with normal latrine/central bathroom situations (you might infect others)....the commander probably would shift them to a quarantine unit at the post/base hospital. It would make sense, even if they had just mild/regular symptoms.

on a mild, moderate and severe scale, moderate is still manageable with a moderate expectation of survival but highly symptomatic: high fever, unrelenting diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, mucus, requires supplemental oxygen, muscle swelling, moderate to extreme pain in joints and spine, splitting headaches, breathing is painful, still manageable organ damage, etc. - meds that need constant monitoring of experienced personnel
serious is a lower expectation of survival to life threatening - unabated fever, more than a little organ damage, opportunistic infections, knocked out/intubated, etc.

Could have moderate symptoms (or even no symptoms, but testing positive) and be hospitalized for other reasons.

Vaccinations are supposed to protect one from illness if infected. These “vaccines” do not work. I checked our state’s vaccination schedule for children, then looked up the viruses, none of the vaccines were against coronaviruses. None. There must be a reason.

The vaccinations worked against the Wuhan flu. They sort of worked against the Indian flu. They don’t even see the South African flu. If you want COVID immunity you need to get and get over COVID. Anyone who doesn’t understand this is ignoring reality. Forget “science”. That’s politics. Let’s just stick with reality. And currently, the reality is, the most vaccinated nations on earth are being absolutely hammered by omicron. If you are vaccinated but don’t have natural immunity, you WILL be joining the natural immunity club. Don’t worry. The water is fine.

negatory, Big Ben. Pure propaganda.

The pertussis and mumps vaccines are 88% efficacy. The measles and german measles vaccine is 97% efficacy. That is, there’s a 12% risk of symptoms with some and a 3% risk of symptoms with others. Are they not vaccines?

Alternately, name one vaccine ever invented that prevents symptoms 100% of the time, when mass administered to over 9 billion individual people of multiple ethnicities at the same time?

i’d say that moderate is severe, and that severe is mortal...

but you are some using a clinical definition that while true in that sense, not as a general rule in common knowledge

there’s a flaw in your logic of ‘get it and get it over with’. First, you have to be able to find someone with Omi and not Delta, assuming that Omi does less organ damage.
Second, you have to survive it without organ damage but, at the same time, have a severe enough case to build good not weak immunity.
Third, you have to survive it without infecting anyone else and preferably without hogging hospital resources
Fourth, since Alpha and Delta recovered can be infected with Omi and vice versa, and we have no clue if Omi will provide any protection against the next variant, what did you accomplish by ‘getting it’ if you can ‘get it’ again, and it’s worse the second time around because the body has already been stressed/weakened by a prior infection?
