Amtrak Suspends Vaccine Mandate Days After Shutting Down Routes Over Staff Shortages
ZeroHedge ^

Amtrak has suspended their vaccine mandate just days after the railroad service began cutting services due to vaccine related staffing shortages, according to Reuters' David Shepardson.

In a Tuesday statement, Amtrak - like many other businesses lately - pointed to a recent federal court decision halting the enforcement of President Biden's Executive Order for federal contractors. The decision "caused the company to reevaluate our policy and to address the uncertainty" surrounding federal requirements.

One of the comments in the comment section caught my eye:

"As more and more companies relent on the mandates, you can bet there will be beaucoup retaliation on the part of petty dictators - local, state and federal - who are furious that people had the temerity to reject their authoritah!

It's the same mentality that is driving the unrelenting insistence on vaccinations when we know now they are essentially worthless in terms of safety and efficacy. Leftists, in case you haven't noticed, are pathologically unable to admit fault. It's like some sort of collective Borderline Personality Disorder.

They will not let this one go. Look for some other sweeping, Draconian legislation to be proposed in coming days as their tantrums go into overdrive."

While agreeing with this comment, I kept thinking "and this is how wars start".....

Amtrak is what you get when the government subsidizes a dying industry.

When the numbers begin to look futile, the investor class gets hinky. Get woke, go broke. Americans are stronger than commercial conglomerates.

My thoughts turned to Genesis 18, where Abraham was able to negotiate with God, to spare Sodom if he could find 10 good men.

The lesson of that is - even the smallest group of righteous people can save a corrupt system. No doubt the “refuseniks” at Amtrak were a minority, but their beliefs forced a change.

Amtrak is what you get when the government subsidizes a dying industry.

Its dying because its government regulated, mandated and controlled - and has been, increasingly so, for at least 110 years.

What would passenger rail travel be if it were completely deregulated and thrown open to human initiative, free-investment and free-management?

We will never know.

Friend of mine works for a railroad company that is considered a federal contractor because they move military equipment, etc. They came out with a mandate right after Brandon dictated it. He wasn’t gonna get the clot shot, but he wouldn’t quit either. A whole bunch of others quit, and the RR is in a bind for personnel. He didn’t quit because he’s 11 months from retirement, but he was preparing to be fired. The RR recently rescinded their mandate after the court ruling, which is going to allow him to keep working.
He told me yesterday that just as soon as he’s eligible for retirement, he’s outta there regardless of what “incentives” they come out for him to stay working.

Not only is it still here, the Dems and RINOs passed the “infrastructure” bill that pumps $66 billion into Amtrak - one of America’s biggest failed government programs (and there are many).

But Xo Bai-Den is a big fan - he’s logged over a million miles on Amtrak dontchaknow. True story - a dead guy told him.

How many were coerced into the jab for fear of their livelihoods? It’s not like they can be unjabbed. Then the overlords flip a switch and say,

“Nevermind.”

Lots of resentment wherever this is happening, I would suspect. Good that perhaps it’s becoming obvious to the comatose that “the system” never gives a sh*t about the individual. Peons are just statistics to manipulate and abuse.

don't blame him. I think MANY of us BOOMERS are looking to RETIRE and NOT continue to work...PHUCK THEM and their mandates.
I will be interesting to see just how well the business climate gets when they see that it was US that kept them afloat.

I am on a Facebook Amtrak fan group.

Full of liberals.

Recently someone posted about being in NYC on Amtrak and they booted someone out for refusing to mask.

“Amtrak is SERIOUS about COVID safety!”

Basically, everyone in reply applauded their tyranny.

In this country, not much, because air travel is more efficient. Sharing with freight lines does not work well because most freight moves more slowly.

You would probably still have a viable northeast corridor, and maybe a couple of routes between well traveled cities (e.g. Dallas/Houston, LA/San Fran), but for passenger travel, cars and planes make the most sense, and roads efficiently serve multiple purposes. Even in a radically free market, who would want to build a rail to Chicago? If the city decays, the route is worthless. Passenger rail days are past in large, developed countries.
