Background: Ivermectin has demonstrated different mechanisms of actions that could potentially protect from both COVID-19 infection and COVID-19-related comorbidities. Based on the existing literature and safety profile of ivermectin, a citywide program of prophylactic use of ivermectin for COVID-19 was implemented in Itajai, a Southern city in Brazil in the state of Santa Catarina. The objective of this analysis is to evaluate the effects of the use of ivermectin for prevention of COVID-19 infection, risk of dying and mortality, compared to non-users. Materials and methods: This is a retrospective analysis of registry data from the medical based citywide COVID-19 prevention with ivermectin program, between July 2020 to December of 2020.

This evidence showed a 7% reduction in COVID-19 infection rate with use of ivermectin: COVID-19 infection rate ratio(Risk ratio (RR)of 0.93; 95% confidence interval(CI), 0.89–0.98; p = 0.003). A total of 62 deaths (1.4% mortality rate) occurred among users and 79 deaths (2.6% mortality rate) among non-users, showing a 48% reduction in mortality rate (RR, 0,52; 95%CI, 0.37–0.72; p = 0.0001). Risk of dying from COVID-19 among ivermectin users was 45% lower than non-users (RR,0.55; 95% CI, 0.40–0.77; p = 0.0004).

An underlying part of the puzzle is the issue of patents. In the US a patent for a drug runs between 10 and 20 years and usually includes the various phase trials, and in Europe about 15. One can be assured that out-of-patent drugs, when effective, will be attacked in favor of the “new and improved” — that older version of “safe and effective.”
That ivermectin is in the public domain has painted a bull's eye on its label, and some studies suggest that it might have other applications are yet not fully investigated. Some praise it, while others damn it for various reasons.
But I tend to watch things based on patent and copyright issues, in part, because one may see companies and governments angle for more profits, usually for the few. Public domain and out-of-patent status are an anathema to the “big” pharmaceuticals and their supporters.
This is one reason why the “emergency use authorization” being paraded as if an official approval, when legally different, is so crucial to short-term profits being harvested in the moment, and protected by “regulatory capture.”
This is why it seems your stance — “everyone must make their own decision” — so aggravates the mega-corporations who seek mandates galore. Corporatism is run rampant, and a mostly free market — “everyone making their own decision” — is attacked.

From business insider: “But Brazilians quickly discovered — through heart-wrenching personal experience — the limits of treating COVID-19 with ivermectin. Brazil suffered some of its worst death rates yet in late 2020 and early 2021, even in heavily ivermectin-dosed areas, as the more transmissible P1, or Gamma, variant spread quickly across the country.”
Important to note this statement: “The evidence base for that protocol leaned heavily on data from Dr. Flávio Cadegiani, who’s now a member of the FLCCC, a US-based ivermectin propaganda machine.”
This whole study appears to be very biased in favor of ivermectin which isn’t surprising considering that Cadegiani is the lead author.

We need a court to step in and force the FDA to follow the law and revoke EUA as there is now a drug / therapeutic that treats the underlying condition.
Doesn’t matter. Fauci, the CDC, Twitter, Facebook and Google all say this is misinformation. Also CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. That leaves Fox and FreeRepublic ans a few radio talk shows who are actually curious about Science.
Ivermectin is effective against Covid-19 because it inhibits proteases. Proteases are enzymes which the body produces to break up harmful proteins. The target proteins are wide ranging and far reaching. The targets of proteases seem to include the proteins which combine to create amyloid beta, the cause of neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS and essential tremor. Studies have shown that these degenerative diseases show up far more frequently in protease inhibitor-treated HIV patients.
There are defined chemical pathways providing reason for the association between protease inhibitors and these neurodegenerative diseases. I would be careful in advocating prophylactic use of ivermectin to treat any malady.

Citing “experts” from a Business Insider article is the opposition to a Research Gate article. You choose. Others choose. But it is not definitive. She says so herself.
BI’s Hilary Brueck reports with words like “through heart-wrenching personal experience,” and the article includes “It is still possible that, in combination with other drugs, the antiparasitic could be one item used in a multilayered system of treatment for COVID-19, perhaps to speed recovery in the early stages of disease. But other early treatment options, like Merck's new pill, appear far more promising in human trials.”
So she argues for the “promising and as yet unavailable Merck product, which is a forecast for the future from Business Insider.
The article ends, “...come to your own conclusions.”
