Ross Ulbricht (Silk Road founder) is a Ron Paul Republican

While attending Penn State University, Ross joined the libertarian club, worked on Ron Paul’s presidential campaign and brought him to campus. In his early 20s, Ross spent significant time thinking and writing about the ideas of limited government and individual freedom, and grew passionate about the ideas of liberty, privacy and free markets.

Ross was an idealist. He cared about bettering the world. He was never motivated by money or power, and rather lived a simple life with modest possessions, dedicating himself to causes he believes in.

“Ross is a pacifist, and someone generous with his time and knowledge. He was never concerned about money. He wanted to solve problems and make things better for others…Everything Ross has done with his science research and career decisions has been motivated by helping others…Ross has a good heart.”

– Austin Tindle, friend, in clemency letter

I never knew this. Just seen it now.

He is spending his 9th year in prison serving a double LIFE sentence + 40 years without parole.

Outrageous!

Never heard of him. What did he do that’s landed him in numerous prisons?

I work with one of his friends. Ross had no intention of doing evil. It was free enterprise all the way.

On the Dark Web, he ran a website called “The Silk Road”, it was basically a site similar to Ebay except you could get just about anything on the website, any type of drug, weapons, etc....all paid for with Bitcoin which made everything anonymous...

The Government eventually had an all out effort to catch him, he was eventually caught in SFO in a public library and was actively administering the site when arrested....

The Government alleged he issued contracts on a few people to have them killed, however when he eventually went on trial he was never charged with murder or conspiracy to commit murder...

He basically flaunted what he was doing and the Government got mad and managed to put him away for life....

That he is a libertarian came out early in the book “American Kingpin - The Silk Road Drugs Empire” by Nick Bilter. Interesting read.

It was presented that he was involved in the murder of a whistleblower.

Thanks for explaining what “Silk Road” means and for giving us a new mystery in “SFO.”

Never charged with that or anything violent.

I think they got him on drug trafficking charges which eplains the ridiculous sentence (they threw the book at him)

He operated the eBay of drugs basically.

If you watch the Documentary on him and the Silk Road Website, he is nothing what you picture as a big time drug dealer who got caught and sentenced to life in prison.....

He was a tall attractive brilliant person, he had a degree in Physics and a Masters in Material Science...

He went by the name of “Dread Pirate Roberts” from novel The Princess Bride.....

he was involved in a few businesses that eventually failed but was attracted to Dark Web, Crypto Currency and the Anonymity it allowed and basically took over the site from a previous owner and really expanded it...

Did he break a bunch of laws, YES, but he believed in 100% total economic freedom to do anything he wanted which included the trading of every narcotic out there....among other things....

Besides the drug dealing his other big mistake was flaunting it and basically saying he would never be caught....which only emboldened the Feds....

He is IMHO another political prisoner!! Double life sentence for dealing drugs? Libertarians have a few good ideas, but most are off the wall...

“Ross is a pacifist, and someone generous with his time and knowledge.

Ross Ulbricht is a murderous drug dealer. Anyone who doubts it can read the trial transcript (which is online) and/or this book:

Just so you know, he was never charged with murder or conspiracy to commit murder, he was a drug dealer but no evidence was shown that he ordered or committed murder and no one was proven to have ever been killed....

Read the trial transcript and the transcript of the sentencing hearing. After you have done that, then come back and propagandize some more for the release of Saint Ross.

Was ever charged with murder or conspiracy to commit murder ?? Was he ever sentenced for murder or conspiracy to murder ??
Was a dead body ever produced ???

then come back to me with actual facts, after everything the government has done outside of the law with respect to Trump, the 1/6 people, etc....and you are still buying their propaganda.....shameful....

What the government says in a sentencing hearing is meaningless unless the person was ever charged and convicted of the actual crime...

It seems you have not read the trial transcript, nor the transcript of the sentencing hearing, nor the appellate court opinion.

I don't wonder, as these materials are voluminous and it took me over forty hours to read them.

But it's easier to rely on the propaganda site freeross.org, where his supporters recruit gullible people and useful idiots.

As far as the one issue of contract murder is concerned, considering the evidence in the light most favorable to Ulbricht, it is:

He paid to have several persons murdered, including innocent housemates of his target. He was provided evidence that the murders had been done, and he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of bitcoins for the murders.

The police, however, were unable to confirm that the murders actually happened.

Therefore, the best Ulbricht can say for himself is that he paid to murder people, but got scammed out of his money.

Of course, if you look at the evidence in another light, you could conclude that he did murder people.

But his sentence was not based on this. The testimony of the families of young people killed by the drugs he sold is painful to read. His life sentence is fully justified and was upheld on appeal.

These are facts, not propaganda for useful idiots.

It’s simple, ask yourself, if he paid to have someone murdered, why was he never charged or sentenced for it...

I have a bridge to sell you if you think if the Government had evidence of him plotting and paying someone to commit murder they would not have charged him with the crimes, even without those charges they got him put away for life....

The Government made all types of claims about him about murder but never charged him ???

It’s a crime to engage in a murder for hire plot, why didn’t the government charge him with that crime...

I’ll have to go back and check, but the Government could never prove any money changed hands and could produce no dead bodies...in fact the government faked a murder and sent him pictures of a fake dead body and still didn’t charge him with anything to do with murder....
