Baked goods degenerate fast without preservatives.

True French bread will lose its quality within hours.

Many times Government bureaucracy makes it damned immposible for stores to give unsold food away regardless of the expiration date. As e’fed up as NY is it is prolly less hassle to throw it away.

She should tell Whole Foods to call a food pantry for the throw-outs. They would be happy to pick it up and give it to needy families.

A useful future skill.

When Democrats say, “Let them eat cake,” we’ll know what they mean.

$1000 at Whole Foods is not a lot of food.

When they first opened here, one of the guys went there and bought a salad from the self serve salad bar. It was $19.65 when they weighed it up. He could have gone to Ruby Tuesdays right next door and had the all you can eat salad bar for $9.95.

Freegans: These horrible stores throw out all this food that could be used, we should have a regulation to make them give it away to shelters.

Stores: Well I wish we could give it to homeless shelters but the regulations you all love so much say we HAVE TO THROW IT ALL OUT!

Politicians: ( Laugh in Bureaucrat )

If its past expiry date, its going in the garbage. No questions asked

My daughter worked for a corporate foodservice company a few years ago. They would NOT consider donating unused or past due food even to food banks. They certainly didn’t allow employees to take it home. It ALL went in the dumpster.

They didn’t want legal hassle, they didn’t want added liability, they didn’t want to create incentives to over-produce, and they didn’t want any management time spent on managing another “channel.”

When I worked at a grocery store we were supposed to make absolute sure that nobody got their hands on the (perfectly good) produce and bakery items we threw away every night. I don’t know if it was true, but the manager told us that our grocery chain used to donate it all to a homeless shelter and then they got sued by someone who claimed they got sick from expired produce.

I’ve been to Whole Foods once. Once was enough. I’m going to guess $1000 worth of food at Whole Foods could be purchased for about $150 at most other grocery stores.

I worked for an upscale hotel when I was 16.

After banquets all the leftover food went into dumpsters. I remember dumping in huge slabs of roast beef or lamb that was never uncovered or carved right from the oven.

They had those 5 gallon ice crem tubs. If the lid was removed and one scoop taken out into the dumpster it went.

What was screwy is we were allowed to eat as much food for free as we could muster while on the job but if you took it out of the dumpster or tried to take it home you would be fired.

I remember all the cooks, dishwashers wait staff and us busboys eating ice cream out on the loading dock at 1 am just before doing final cleaning and closing up.

It was great times.

Worked in a dining hall in college. Shocked at how much food got tossed. Students frequently took more than they needed, and lots of uneaten food went in the trash. One time, another worker dropped a metal tray of 50 chicken fried steaks. About 20 flew off and landed on the floor. But because the TRAY had hit the floor, the manager was required to throw out all 50.

We did work at a mall that had a bakery, their dumpster was full of baked goods that didn’t sell. We should have just brought a jar of peanut butter and ate beside the dumpster.

My local Kroger meat manager tells me he throws away more meat than he sells. The dairy department finally gets to putting out the premium dairy like half and half and real cream two days before its shelf expiring date. Then they throw all that away too. Then the shelves sit empty for two weeks.

“And the worst part is, none of this stuff was expired. Everything that I found was at least two days before its ‘best buy’ date and could have easily been donated, frozen, or given to people who needed it.”

No you stupid witch, they couldn't.

Donated stuff must be at least a week out from it's due date to be accepted.

Frozen? Really? Unless it is designed to be frozen you are in trouble with the feds and giving it away is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

This is the world you have made you liberal illegitimate offspring of an obese female dog.

Enjoy.
