A self-proclaimed “dumpster diver” has shown off her massive food haul after nabbing $1,000 worth of fancy food for free.
The woman, who goes by the name Dumpster Diving Freegan on TikTok, rummaged through bins at her local Whole Foods store and found a range of bakery items, a case of baby food, and even loo roll which the store was throwing out.

“And the worst part is, none of this stuff was expired. Everything that I found was at least two days before its ‘best buy’ date and could have easily been donated, frozen, or given to people who needed it.”

The local Dunkin Donuts throws out dozens and dozens of donuts, muffins and pastries every night, They used to donate them to food banks until the corporate lawyers told them to stop.
Worked in a dining hall in college. Shocked at how much food got tossed. Students frequently took more than they needed, and lots of uneaten food went in the trash. One time, another worker dropped a metal tray of 50 chicken fried steaks. About 20 flew off and landed on the floor. But because the TRAY had hit the floor, the manager was required to throw out all 50.
We did work at a mall that had a bakery, their dumpster was full of baked goods that didn’t sell. We should have just brought a jar of peanut butter and ate beside the dumpster.
My local Kroger meat manager tells me he throws away more meat than he sells. The dairy department finally gets to putting out the premium dairy like half and half and real cream two days before its shelf expiring date. Then they throw all that away too. Then the shelves sit empty for two weeks.
The do-gooders on the Left like to complain about how much food is wasted in America. But they don’t seem to realize that a lot of the overly cautious practices that result in wasted food are driven by “brilliant ideas” from the do-gooders on the Left who want to keep us all perfectly safe.
I have volunteered at a local food bank for years. Many foods are good for months to years after their expiration dates. Here is but one set of guidelines. Link
I was a busboy, bell hop, set up convention rooms etc wherever they needed me. It was super fast paced. If you took your 15 minute break you would never catch up.
I had to have been burning 4-5000 calories per shift. It was grueling. I was thin and was playing 2 sports during the school year
I remember grabbing fillet mignon’s and eating them out of my hand no plate or utensils in the kitchen taking a minute break before running back out into the fray.
I bet I was eating 4000-5000 calories easily every day.
After work we would sit out in cars drinking beers making out with the older waitresses.
I hated the job but would go back in a minute.

LOL Whole Foods would NEVER use “bug sprays” or anything “unnatural” that might kill nature’s beings.
I was thinking Costanza with the eclair would fit better with this story.

Frozen? Really? Unless it is designed to be frozen you are in trouble with the feds and giving it away is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The only thing you have to really be careful with is BEDBUGS.
They can live in solid wood furniture too.
Take the drawers out and flip them upside down to make sure there are no signs.

We bought some new furniture recently and they no longer take the old stuff and dispose if it as they did in the past. Worried about bed bugs getting into the delivery truck
I’m a big “second harvest” advocate. Twenty pounds of strawberries which will go bad in two days sure makes great preserves. Cauliflower browning on the crowns pickles nicely. Apples with brown spots make great jarred cobbler fixins. Apple cake too. Not to mention pies.
Years ago my wife worked for a fancy hotel—and one of the employee benefits was that they encouraged all hotel employees to take home as much of the daily leftover food as they wanted—gave them plastic containers and bags to do it.
That was worth more than her pay—and the food was outstanding.
I have no clue whether they still do that.
(I was _not_ happy when she found another job. :-) )

I am going to tell you how to revive true French bread to its just-baked freshness:
Sprinkle water on the crust and exposed bread then rub butter, ( melted butter is best, ) all over the loaf then place in the oven for a few minutes, ) with the oven on, of course, ) then.....
Voila! Fresh French bread!
Truth be told, this will work on any pastry, even stale donuts. ;-)
