MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Mohamed Noor, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of killing Justine Ruszcyzk Damond, will face another sentencing later this month for his second-degree manslaughter conviction after the Minnesota Supreme Court vacated his third-degree murder conviction last month.
Noor will be sentenced Oct. 21 at 9 a.m., according to Hennepin County court documents.
In June 2019, Noor was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison after the jury found him guilty of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He was acquitted of the most serious charge, second-degree murder.
In March of this year, Noor’s attorney filed a petition asking the high court to hear the case after the Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled earlier this year to uphold the 2019 conviction for the shooting death of Damond.
The supreme court’s ruling said that the mental state necessary for depraved-mind murder “is a generalized indifference to human life” that can’t exist when the defendant’s conduct is “directed with particularity at the person who is killed.”
According to the ruling, evidence is insufficient to sustain his conviction since the “appellant’s conduct was directed with particularity at the person who was killed.”
On July 15, 2017, Damond had called 911 about a possible sexual assault in the alley behind her south Minneapolis home. In court, Noor testified that he shot Damond after hearing a loud noise and seeing a woman lift her hand outside the squad car. Prosecutors disputed there was a noise and argued that Noor had no reason to shoot a 40-year-old yoga teacher in her pajamas.
Justine Damond ping list.
Ramadan, but yeah.
When do the riots start? /jk

Has there ever been a clearer example of double standards in justice as in this case vs the George Floyd case?
So Derek Chauvin is next, right?
Someone will figure out a reason to go nuts and burn Target down. Again.
“So Derek Chauvin is next, right?”
Stop it. Yer killin’ me.
The man wasn't qualified to operate a broom, much less a radio and a firearm while wearing a badge.
He murdered Justine Damond. He needs to be in prison for good.
Thankfully, it’s not an acquittal. He’ll be bagging groceries at Cub Foods for the rest of his life.
And, yes. More people needed to be held accountable for this gross miscarriage of justice.
*SIGH*
The only JUSTICE out there these days is INJUSTICE. This makes me heartsick for her Fiance and family. How do you survive this emotional meat grinder? :(
Great question.
Blacks get a free pass killing whites.
I think he could still get quite a few years depending on what degree
All of the legal-eagles on the local talkers are convinced that it will be no more than a couple of months to time served.
It’s Minneapolis. It has recently come to light that the liberal judges there are more likely to go easy, especially on repeat offenders. Very often released with no bail, several times, even in cases involving repeat felons charged with gun crimes.
Hennepin County (Minneapolis) are “sentencing” rapists who have a photo business to zero time. A felon had a gun in the house. A child got ahold of it and shot & killed another child. The felon was sentenced to time served.
The judges must be on the dole. And there has been zero outraged. Even the crickets have stopped chirping.
You’ve been paying attention...
