Wasn’t that entire story line thought up by the actor?
The show wasted so much time on the subject - it was laughable and the worst of the Sopranos.
Phil didn’t like to talk about eating grilled cheese off the radiator, or what he did with a tissue.
Let’s take this in the back.

AIDS?
Then Vito shot the civilian he got in the car accident with. He deserved everything that happened to him.
That's what Vito did.
You can go!
“I feel like I’ve been stabbed in da haaaat”
It’s they’re, not their.
I am sick of bad grammar and punctuation on the net.
I wouldn’t hold the mafia up as an example for any social norms. Lol.
Where to begin? Criminals are people who have problems delaying gratification or thinking ahead to the consequences of their actions. They don't think ahead that far. Incarceration for extended periods doesn't seem like much of a possibility when they start. Also, a lot of them come from criminal cultures/backgrounds and don't consider other life options. And it's possible that if you can easily kill people, maybe conventional ideas of machismo don't matter to you.
Let’s not even get into Big Pussy. Not a name I would want to go through life with........except in that environment I would probably be a big pussy.
The “Vito is Gay” storyline did come out of nowhere, as if somebody pressured Chase into shoehorning in a gay storyline in The Sopranos.
I had to fast forward quite a bit in that season. that’s a story line they could have done without.
And Beanie was a real stand-up kinda guy.

That’s not how prison works
I agree. When one looks beyond the glamorous, even noble veneer portrayed in the movies and television, one finds people free of inhibition when it comes to their own gratification. The sort of person that will murder on the slightest suspicion, or just for the fun of it, a person that will dismember a body, torture victims, savagely beat victims, engage in all manner of vice and whose thoughts are continually of evil is the type person in a given situation that may prefer a woman but will settle for a man.
,
I respectfully disagree. I can imagine someone simply "being born into" or gradually "sliding into" the gangster subculture and quickly learning that only this type of behavior (killing people for an imagined slight; using torture to extract information, to punish informants, or to "set an example") is expected by his peers, is effective in maintaining order, and can't be avoided without signaling to others that you are a "push-over," a "patsy," or an undercover agent.
Of course, someone who is a sociopath from the "get-go" won't have to adopt these behaviors; he'll already embody them.
