Harvard's controversial astronomer Avi Loeb is leading a new initiative, dubbed the Galileo Project, to check Earth's skies and the rest of the solar system for signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.
The longtime astronomy professor, who became well-known for his belief that interstellar object Oumuamua was likely an alien probe, announced the details of his plan via a virtual press conference Monday.
The plan is to use a variety of telescopes to look for alien spaceships, probes or other debris left behind by intelligent beings who weren't born on Earth.
The first phase of the project involves setting up a network of dozens of relatively small telescopes around the globe that will attempt to capture new images of unidentified aerial phenomena...
Loeb has become a polarizing figure in the astronomy community, especially since the release of his book outlining his Oumuamua hypothesis earlier this year, with a number of scientists accusing him of jumping to radical conclusions without appropriate evidence.
In addition to trying to spot UAP in the sky, the project also plans to use next-generation telescopes like the upcoming Vera C. Rubin Observatory to look for more objects in the solar system like Oumuamua, as well as for potential alien probes orbiting Earth to check us out in a low-key way. A description of the project even leaves open the possibility of designing its own purpose-built space observatory:

Papa Ooh Mau Mau, the bird is the word.
Everybody needs a hobby.
Mine is communicating with cats.
Been talking to Calypso Louie?
Reminds me of a joke: If cats could text.....they wouldn’t.
Not worth it. The cat thing, that is...
The demand and subsequent price for small telescope time is no doubt slumpsville. He’s bottom feeding and probably getting a kickback.
his belief that interstellar object Oumuamua was likely an alien probe\\
LOL !! I dunno. I think if I was flying around looking for that crazy planet that broadcasts to the universe where it’s at, I’d dress to impress, not disguise myself as a rock. Unless I think that humans are as dumb as rocks.
Dude, they’ve already landed and vote Democrat.
Why not?
That’s one my hobbies, too, but it always seems to be a one-way street- I listen to them, but they don’t listen to me!
I love them anyway.
Klatu barrada nikto.
If the world was truly fact cats would push everything off the edge.
Typo. Meant to say ‘’flat’’.
There are tens of thousands of folks right here on Earth who claim they have talked to alien intelligences.
Put away the telescopes and the expensive gear, and start talking to those folks.
Science hates dealing with real people, would rather just call them nasty names.
Before he starts his project, he should read the book “Intercept UFO” by Renato Vesco. It outlines the boundary layer control aeronautics technology behind these secret weapons. Purely man-made.
Set up for satanic deception.
I would laugh at this, but now that our government is admitting there are things flying around over the ocean and has no idea what they are, I guess not.
