It may have taken a few days for the Biden administration to finally begin using "communist" to describe the government of Cuba. Still, the State Department's initial claim that the protests were purely due to COVID-19 reveals a futile attempt to control the narrative.
The American Left clearly has a messaging problem when it comes to Cuba.
This problem became most clear on Wednesday, when the Left’s primary activist wing, Black Lives Matter, issued a verbose statement that blamed Cuba’s situation not on the authoritarian regime, but solely on the U.S. trade embargo. The statement just barely stopped short of declaring outright support for the Cuban regime.
Apparently, BLM is fine with police violence, so long as it’s carried out by a regime founded on Marxist principles. It’s also ironic that BLM's solution to Cuba’s economic woes is simply a better trade relationship with capitalist, "racist" America. This "solution" is an admission that communism is inherently flawed.
But let’s be clear. What’s going on 90 miles south of Florida does not come down to the embargo, and it’s definitely not all because of COVID-19. Instead, it's the result of a criminal regime that continues to repress its people violently. A regime for which the American Left is often happy to carry water.
The surge in COVID infections on the island nation has exposed its crumbling health system. But Cuba maintains robust trade relationships with countries all around the world. It's thus an awful, last-ditch argument by the Left to insist that the communist regime needs to rely on free market trade with America in order to prosper! The U.S. embargo does not restrict medicines. Moreover, doesn't the European Union have a high-value goods export market for Cuba?

Like it really matters?
When will the American people wake up and show the Marxist politicians at every level of government they’re toast??
Paris protests
Look at that crowd in the second tweet from the linked one. Impressive!!
Ireland protesting against the government as well; then add Cuba.

The Cuban people have no guns. They have no freedom.
Yeah. Up until these Cuban protests of 2021, I had no idea the Left were hypocrites. [/s]
They won't. Most are too comfortable with the Communists or believe what the Communists say and are enjoying the free stuff provided by the Communists/. Once the Communists consolidate their control over the sheep, though that will change. Then the tears will begin to flow. And the burial places will fill up as the slaughter begins.
The Marxists never see it that whay - morally. To them there is no greater moral truth than the “inherent” “truth” in Marxian dialectics. The “success” (rule) of that is the greatest “moral truth” - to them. What we see as hypocrisy is no more than inconsequential collateral conditions necessary for Marxist success.
I remember some years back laying out the myriad tyrannies committed by Chavez in Venezuela. A Leftist extended family member said, in response, with no emotion, no hesitation, no responding analysis, point blank, “well at least he’s a socialist”. Without such true believers the Bolsheviks would have never taken Russia.
You can’t have moral hypocrisy if you have no morals.
The Left is immune to accusations of Hypocrisy because they are moral relativists.
But when you drill it all the way down, it is because they hate God.
Good reference to the village idiot from Brooklyn.
As to hypocrisy? If the policy is deliberate? The commies in charge will never let non-commies get their way on anything. Now, THERE, is a slippery slope.
However, they are missing a short-term solution here. Cuban refugees vote conservative. Freeing Cuba would re-settle all of those enthusiastic non-commies back into Cuba. This could swing Fl commie.
