any news on the twit what wrecked the race yet?
Was walking home last week, about 9pm. Three houses away from home,. sits a bike leaning against a trash can. It's a nice Schwinn 21 speed. Not a new bike, not top of the line Schwinn, but looks good. I think.. naw.. and walk home. Get home, say to myself, "what the heck?"
I walk over to the neighbor, she's washing dishes so she sees me walking up. She looks , then recognizes me.
Comes to the door: "I'm sorry to bother you, but are you throwing that bike in the trash?"
She: "Yeah, you can have it if ya want it....I got two more in back we don't want anymore.."
Me: Oh gosh! No, I'll just take this one though. And thank you!"
"You bet.." she says, "Say, aren't you the guy who fixes things?"
Hehehe. OK, guilty. I have a '71 VW Super Beetle I am restoring, so maybe she's heard my grinding and cutting. Yeah, maybe..
Anyways, I take it home. The next day, I look it over. The derailleur is shot-like busted wheels broke.. I go to the bike shop, get a low dollar Shimano derailleur, clean up the chain, and bada bing! I got a nice bike for the oldest grandchild for like $20.
Now THAT'S a good deal there...
I was not aware that we had a bicycle thread.
So what’s the most effective way to avoid flat tires?
Ping
70 is the new 40. I just sprung for my first full suspension bike. I’m way past wanting to crash down mountainsides and rip through rock gardens at speed, but I do enjoy off road trails and picking my way through tricky spots — slowly — is part of the fun. At this point, I am deliberately overbuying. I want a bike that is far more capable than I am so that I will never again have to ride past a dirt track, fire road or footpath running off through the woods, and think “I’m up for it but my bike can’t handle it.” If the weak link is me, that’s fine; I’m not young anymore. But I don’t want to be held back by the bike.
Add a motor to the bicycle.

This is a nice surprise!! Didn’t know this thread existed.
Anyone here into fat and plus size tire bikes? I ride a salsa timberjack in 27.5+. I normally run 3.0s which are my all around tire. Since I only own 1 bike it has to do it all…road, single/dbl track and the beach.
I picked up a Zizzo Forte folding bike earlier this year.
Very happy with it. I have done some mods, a new free cluster and seat. Both minor mods, makes a lot of difference...
First time this year I saw what we call The Pink Cadillac".
These two were collecting trash along the riverbank. On a Sunday!
My new Nike. The fabric allows cool air to my feet while I ride and they glow in the hall when I use the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Soviet plane crashes into Stößensee Berlin, April 6 1966 (YouTube)Get out of your rat-lines and go exploring. You might learn something!
Today was cloudy and cool so I rode around the Müggelsee. I decided to get off my usual trails and saw some new places. One trail was really enjoyable and right next to the lake. I was happy I finally found this way. Then I saw what looked like a memorial that had pictures so I stopped to investigate this because you're not surprised to see such a thing along a road (car accident, etc) but not here on a trail by the lake.
I took a blade to cut branches off this small tree like I did last summer.
But the whole thing was down on the path.
My switchblade is still in my camera-bag (man-purse).
I'm going to get a machete.
I have seen where a chainsaw can be rented.
