Here in the Texas Hill Country we had a herd of at least 15 axis occasionally roaming thru our pastures. They browse together like a herd of sheep.

But since the terrible, week-long subfreezing weather w/ ice & snow during Valentine’s week we hadnt seen that big group. I have noticed a few stragglers on occasion.

Axis may be a threat but the biggest threat are the feral hogs that run rampant thru local farms & ranches. They tear up everything & hurt the native wildlife.

I live on a private air port. We here live in fear of feral hogs rutting around on taxi or runways.
Come in for a night landing after a 400 pounder got his fill of grubs and an accident waiting to happen.
