Might have noted these are also in England, who also imported them. Large rack for small deer.

Yummy. One thing that makes a difference when I eat whitetail is if the fat is left on.

In my humble opinion, it is the fat that gives whitetail meat that extra “gamey” flavor. If it’s trimmed off when butchering or shortly after, it just tastes better—to me.

I eat a lot of venison because I let hunters hunt deer on my land for a payment in meat, and I always trim the fat as soon as I get (unless it is sausage!). The more they bag, the more meat in my freezer.

Yet the bleeding heart PETA people will insist on birth control rather than culling by hunting and putting meat on the table.

Here in the Texas Hill Country we had a herd of at least 15 axis occasionally roaming thru our pastures. They browse together like a herd of sheep.

But since the terrible, week-long subfreezing weather w/ ice & snow during Valentine’s week we hadnt seen that big group. I have noticed a few stragglers on occasion.

Axis may be a threat but the biggest threat are the feral hogs that run rampant thru local farms & ranches. They tear up everything & hurt the native wildlife.

It isn't uncommon for an axis to give birth twice in one year, giving them an obvious advantage over native deer species!

Nonsense. So do whitetails. As a matter of fact, it also isn't unusual for whitetails to birth twins. I don't see a problem with axis deer. Just hunt them.

There are no deer species native to Australia.

I thought that we defeated the Axis in 1945, after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

If anyone thinks deer are bad wait until some bleeding heart PETA moron decides to release monkeys in the USA. They are an extremely serious pest in agricultural regions that overlap their range.

We’ve got Axis, Fallow, Blackbuck and Aoudad on the ranch, we never stocked them. All but the Aoudad are escapes from local game ranches a few miles away. The Aoudad migrated in from where they were originally stocked in Palo Duro Canyon back in the 50’s. Right now they don’t seem to be a threat to the local whitetails. The ones that are really multiplying are the Aoudad, they stay up on the mountains and away from the predators. We’ve got feral hogs down low and they’re the biggest problem, I shoot everyone of them I see.

Males are even known to bugle during the mating season.

Can some hunter here help me with this statement? Wouldn't the males be ESPECIALLY vocal during the mating season?

The gestation period for axis deer is around 220 days and breeding can occur year-round. It isn't uncommon for an axis to give birth twice in one year

A year has 365 days in it. 2 X 220 days = 440 days. So how could a doe manage to get pregnant and deliver TWICE in a single year? Even if it became gravid IMMEDIATELY after delivering the first kit?

Regards,

Funny, but body shop owners don’t see deer as a threat at all.
