I don't know how many, countless, British movies I've seen were someone at some point says to a rattled person "what you need is a good strong cup of tea". It's the cure-all for everything.

For me at least, a double strength cup of hot tea helps to relieve the pain of post-herpetic neuralgia.

I’ve heard various teas are good for whatever ails you..........but how do you know which one does the trick?

There is a fair amount of medical research on teas of various types, but mostly it is folklore and trial and error. Pubmded can be used to access the medical studies, with various books and promotional materials providing plain language guidance.
