Officer William "Billy" F. Evans, who died on Good Friday while defending the Capitol, will lie in honor at the Capitol Rotunda on April 13, congressional leaders announced Tuesday.
Evans, an 18-year veteran of the United States Capitol Police force, was 41 years old. He was a father of two children and a native of North Adams, Mass.
"Billy was the best father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ever hope for," Evans' family said in a new statement Tuesday. "His death has left a gaping void in our lives that will never be filled."
Evans was killed Friday when a vehicle driven by Noah Green, 25, crashed into a barricade protecting the Capitol and rammed into Evans and another officer. Green purportedly came out of the car with a knife and was shot to death by police.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., praised Evans' heroics Tuesday when announcing the arrangements to honor him at the Capitol.
"In giving his life to protect our Capitol and our country, Officer Evans became a martyr for our democracy," Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement. "On behalf of the entire Congress, we are profoundly grateful."
Lying in honor is one step below lying in state at the Rotunda, which is typically reserved for presidents and elected officials. Evans will be the fourth Capitol police officer to lie in honor in history.

Odd that they still have not provided a cause of death. Least transparent police department ever.
According to the medical examiners office, "41-year-old William Billy Evans died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries to the head."
Multiple blunt force head injuries?

More details would be helpful, especially since we still do not know how Sicknick died.

Before the blunt force injury statement, a lot of people were speculating that the dead policeman was hit by friendly fire.
The photo I saw of the crime scene shows the car ended up against a concrete barrier.
No guard house that I could see.

Not warranted , nothing but a show . The figure heads will make a brief showing and feign sadness while they check their wristwatch. May Gods wrath fall upon the massive group of subversives with no mercy.
He was murdered by a black suprematist so no. It was purged from the headlines almost immediately upon this revelation.
I believe he was initially hit by the National of Islam assailant’s car and then essentially pushed some distance into the barricade. So, it’s easy to see how he could have multiple head injuries, both front and back.
Many of the barriers that they use around the Capitol are the kind that ‘pop-up’ as a barrier of last resort; they look like a backwards ski-ramp with the leading edge designed to essentially slice into whatever vehicle is trying to pass. He was trapped between one of those barriers and the car. It had to be absolutely gruesome which might explain why they’re not very detailed in the description.
There are a fair share of ghouls on FR. they want every little detail, along with diagrams and photos.
It doesn’t take a genius to look at the scene and figure out what happened.
How queer no one is blaming Nation of Islam for this murderous attack.
