Anyone Recognize this Spider?

One of my kids found this in his room today and took the picture. He & mom let it go outside. Apparently the leg-span is about the size of a nickel.
I don't recall seeing anything like this before in our area (Minneapolis subs).
Anyone have a clue as to what species this is?

I don’t know the species, but it looks as though it could be eggbound. The spider probably made a nice mid day snack for a Robin or Cardinal.

My son also had some bamboo plants that he got from some local shop. It probably snuck in on one of those.
