Well there's a red flag right there. Anybody spending 20% of their income on death insurance for family members is expecting them to die and soon. Calling the company to ask how long after purchase of the policies the kids could be killed --- I mean tragically die in an accident -- and insurance company wouldn't investigate it might be an even bigger read flag.
