Why was Harry drawn to marry a difficult personality so much like his mother? The lad may be a dolt, but his decisions and actions nevertheless have reasons behind them. The key point is that the great hurts of childhood tend to endure into adulthood, and Harry never fully absorbed the divorce of his parents and the loss of his mother. Nor did he repudiate his mother's hostility toward the royal family.

Isolated by divorce from much of the royal family, Harry inevitably came to view Dianna's self-centered and overly dramatic personality as normal. This drew him toward a similar type in the form of Meghan Markle. And Harry was unable to get past Dianna's hostility toward the royal family, which in turn helped lead to his poor choice of spouse and alienation from them. This is now compounded by an American exile and a determination by Harry not to get divorced and visit its harms upon his young son and impending second child.

To be fair to Harry, I think that he indulges Meghan in large part in order to preserve his marriage and to raise his children in a household with two parents devoted to their care and upbringing. I think Harry reasons that his best purpose in life is now to assure that his children have the best upbringing possible. In effect, Harry is making the sacrifice that Charles declined to make when he divorced Dianna.
