I love America, I support the troops, and I want sports teams to stop playing the national anthem before every game.
It's not an act of genuine patriotism, it's a ritual of joyless conformity.
End the obligatory performances and shame-enforced head-bowing. For the love of America, make the "Star Spangled Banner" mean something again.

Yeah...it’s not like civic religion in the US asks someone to do very much.
At least keep the players in the locker room where they were for 100 years. I thought tradition was desired. I guess if it fits the narrative only.
“Anthony L. Fisher”
Jewish name.
We're Americans. The National Anthem, is one of those rituals that binds us together as a country. It's also why the left hates it so much. If you think we're divided now, let's see how we are after we do away with it, the pledge of allegiance in the classrooms, and waving American flags.
Well, we'll be Germany, aka, New Turkey.
Stopping the national anthem before sporting events is EXACTLY what the left wants us to do. Why give in to their anti-American suggestions?
If it weren’t for sporting events, we wouldn’t hear the national anthem at all. I guess that is the goal. But, they certainly would allow black power salutes, or queer demonstrations, or solidarity with global warmists...
People: this is long overdue. The national anthem was put in there by congress in the 30’s. It’s purpose was to take our mind off the depression. It’s was and is a distraction. Now the BLM people are calling us on it. Government should stay out of the private sector. Remember that patriotism is the last bastion of the scoundrel.
There. Fixed it.
The left is dedicated to tearing down all it means to be American. They are enabled by feckless people like this author.
There is no reason to not play the national anthem.
Time was it aired on tv around 2am or 5am as affiliates would end or start their broadcast day
No borders
No anthem
Open elections for the wold world to vote in out country’s campaigns
No national language
No history
No traditions
That’s how you get Marxism
For the love of America stop broadcasting sporting events that flaunt privilege.
Sporting events are no longer unifying and enjoyable, they further sow discord.
Having winners and losers is too painful for Americans to cope with.
Be gone sporting events!
for the love of america stop the destruction of it by the demonrats...
Government out of private sectors means NO funding for stadiums or to woo teams and events.
Amen!
That’s a good compromise. Keep the players inside the locker room except for the Army vs Navy game.
You want the National Anthem to “mean something”? It would only take four steps:
1) You teach it in school. ALL FOUR VERSES. You tell the story of the battle that it is describing. You teach it again and again, so that knowing how to sing it becomes second nature.
2) You teach “America the Beautiful” too. ALL FOUR VERSES. You explain how the beginning of every verse extols something about America, not always the best things but you teach how you can love a country right or wrong, when right to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. You explain that the way for “God” to “mend thine every flaw” is done by confirming our soul in self-control, and our liberty in law—NOT BLM, NOT Antifa, NOT riots, NOT abject hatred of everything that isn’t like you.
3) You explain that every time you sing either anthem, you affirm what is good about America and vow to sacrifice to repair what is not good about America. Like all the times you tell someone you love them, sometimes you’ll feel a lot and sometimes you’ll feel very little, but every time you sing it is one time fewer until the time that it swells your heart.
4) You take a knee or do anything that denegrates the anthem, you’re out. For keeps. FOREVER. PERIOD.
