Your option 3 has the same effect as option 2. Don’t take the case, and the Defendants win by default.

If SCOTUS does not take the case any creditably they have now will be totally destroyed This will be very bad for the republic and may lead to its destruction.

President Trump. "I will declare martial law!"
Military leaders: "Screw you."
State governors: "Screw you twice."
Military leaders: "What the governors said."
So what's next?
I suppose We the People could grab out Patriot Boom Sticks, fill the magazines full of Liberty Pills, and march on DC.
And then do what exactly? I'm not sure what comes next. Maybe stand in front of the Capitol Building and shout menacingly? Link arms around the White House to prevent President Biden from entering?

Not hearing the case will be bad for the Republic be cause it means that the SC is feckless and that our constitution is just a historic document hat has little or no meaning.
