The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe (Book)

(I listened to Coast to Coast AM last night. Mr. Noory had an interview with Jay W. Richards, Ph.D.. who co-wrote the new book, "The Price of Panic: How the Tyranny of Experts Turned a Pandemic into a Catastrophe".

Regardless of your opinion of C2Cam it was an informative interview about how relying on so-called experts regarding Covid-19 has led to a disaster for both public health and the economy.

I included a link to C2Cam. However, you have to register to listen to the interview.

Below are two synopses of the book. The first from the publisher. The second from C2Cam:)

"For the first time in history, the world shut itself down—by choice—all for fear of a virus, COVID-19, that wasn’t well understood. The government, with the support of most Americans, ordered the closure of tens of thousands of small businesses—many never to return. Almost every school and college in the country sent its students home to finish the school year in front of a computer. Churches cancelled worship services. “Social distancing” went from a non-word to a moral obligation overnight. Moral preening on social media achieved ever new heights.

The world will reopen and life will go on, but what kind of world will it be when it does? It can’t be what it was, because of what’s just happened.

Professors Jay Richards, William Briggs, and Douglas Axe take a deep dive into the crucial questions on the minds of millions of Americans during one of the most jarring and unprecedented global events in a generation.

What will be the total cost in dollars, lives, and livelihoods of this response from governments, on advice from Science?

What role have national and global health organizations such as WHO played in this? To whom are they accountable?

What evidence do they rely on in sounding the alarm?

How did science bureaucrats, relying on murky data and speculative computer models, gain the power to shut down the global economy?

How did politicians, who know nothing of the science, decide whom to trust?"

Pandemic Panic: C2Cam

"Jay W. Richards, Ph.D., is an Assistant Research Professor in the Busch School of Business and Fellow of the Institute for Human Ecology at The Catholic University of America. In the first half of the show, he discussed the American and world response to the COVID19 pandemic. Richards said that the root of the response to the pandemic was a "buggy computer program" that predicted that 3.4% of the world population would die from the disease without strict quarantines, chief among them was Dr. Tedros Adhanom, the director of the World Health Organization. Richards continued with his assertion that the virus was "utterly indifferent o these government lockdowns," there is little evidence that they had any effect and that it "makes no sense that we should shut down the entire economy" if the high risk was to only some segments of the population such as the elderly.

Richards and his co-authors do not believe that the virus was manmade, since it is quite similar to other naturally-occurring coronaviruses, but favor the likelihood is that it somehow escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China and that the Chinese government "had to figure out a way to cover for it" with the story of bats in the open-air market. The reality of infection and death rates, he believes, will become more clear next year when deaths from other causes that are confused with the COVID-19 count are weeded out. Richards added that he thinks that local governments should be allowed to determine their own responses in order to try different methods for opening businesses, schools, and other institutions. He believes that "public health disasters are the best way that governments can use to control a population." Ultimately, Richards said, the response should be equal to the risk, and not overreact, which severely effects our lives and the economy."
