My favorite is the Horsehead nebula beautiful, right in the belt.

OK, no one found the cats. In the explanation at the link you can see text that is blue indicating it is a hot link. The people at NASA sometimes insert links in the explanation that are not what you would expect; scientist humor. This one is at the link referring to the oxygen, hydrogen and sulfur displayed in “three colors”.

Yeah, that column is huge! A star nursery. Orion is truly amazing.

Oh, so the cat was not in the picture!

“Lynx” to cats shows; White cat with blue and gold eyes, Tiger Calico mix with green eyes, and tabby with light green eyes!

MtnClimber; Thanks for posting these Apods!

Opinions seem to vary as to whether our galaxy smells like gunpowder, burnt steak and brimstone - or like raspberries...

I am concerned for the tiny little guy in the center of the first Nebula picture. He is in the bright light headed down the slope. Can’t see who it is, but then I’m no Astronomer.

located centrally, just to the 7 oclock of the larger “mass” there are a pair of eyes peeping out from under thevisor of a helmet, and the face is wearing a mask!

In the center? Ah, no. But there appears to be a kind of amorphous looking figure to the left who looks like he's surfing down towards the center of the nebula.

That’s the universe’s biggest lady bug, on the Left of the photo. or a giant tropical snail. Hard to tell with the naked eye.

The image in your post must be a plot of data interpolated from observations. Given that the rotational effects on the galaxy as a whole are ignored in the static two dimentional view, (wouldn’t it be a sight to see it make a complete revolution over the course of 250 million years), what I’m seeing are areas of density - matter making up the galactic arms, and areas of nothingness. I wonder if this might be some sort of interference pattern, possibly of gravity waves interacting with each other.

Well, Orion Nebula is in our own galaxy; so it probably smells the same there as it does here (perhaps with slight, neighborhood differences :-)
