When I read articles like this I wonder why scientists are amazed. We know there were Neanderthals. Do scientists think they woke up, pooped, hunted, ate, had sex, then slept, without any other activity? Do they think the Neanderthals just stood in silence while not hunting or being hunted?

The “shocking” part is the extreme antiquity of the site and that its Neanderthal inhabitants modified it to make it more suitable. In effect, it is the earliest known construction.
