Well at his age I suspect it’s just a legitimate hearing aid.........I can’t imagine someone feeding me information via an ear piece and then trying to repeat what they say.

I agree.

Hearing aids are distracting for folks with dementia—in its early stages.

I cannot imagine someone more than a little down that road trying to follow a “voice in their head.”

They would stop, and concentrate. It would be obvious to every person watching.

It's probably more difficult if you are thinking, rather than a blank slate merely repeating...

It appears to entirely block the ear canal. I’ve worn hearing aids for some time and have never seen one like that. The idea of a hearing aid is to boost the parts of the audio spectrum that you are deaf to and leave the rest one. You tend to lose the higher frequencies first. If there’s one good thing about this, they are the easiest for the small speaker to prodjce.
