Its unlikely that there is a single federal alphabet organization less popular among the readership of this website than the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. These are the people who gave us both the Siege at Ruby Ridge and the Siege of Waco. Whats more, they may well be engaged in an entirely unconstitutional exercise: monitoring and patrolling the gun ownership of law-abiding citizens.
Theres also a solid case to be made that the ATF is a rogue organization, the most corrupt of the federal alphabet agencies. This can be seen through a number of scandals beginning with Ruby Ridge, threading through the siege at Mount Carmel in Waco, and continuing to the notorious Fast and Furious scandal.

I recall reading this in Wayne Lapierre’s book “Guns, Crime, and Freedom”. In it, he quotes a congressman in about 1980 using the “jackbooted thugs” term as there was some very serious discussion about abolishing the agency altogether because of abuses by the agents that were well known even by that time.

Without question. My vision of hell would be an America in which every service is provided by the Boston DMV.
I’m sure the solution we’ll get is the creation of even more bureaucracies.
Undoubtably!
I’m surprised there’s not a line.
