The Justice Department is expected to bring an antitrust action against Google in coming weeks, focusing on its dominance in online search and whether it was used to stifle competition and hurt consumers, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press Thursday.

The department also is examining Google’s online advertising practices, said the person, who could not discuss an ongoing investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. Antitrust officials at the department briefed state attorneys general Thursday on the planned action against Google, seeking support from states across the country that share concerns about Google’s conduct.

The anticipated lawsuit against Google could be the government’s biggest legal offensive to protect competition since the groundbreaking case against Microsoft almost 20 years ago.

Lawmakers and consumer advocates accuse Google of abusing its dominance in online search and advertising to stifle competition and boost its profits. …

So late to the party, with so many companies needing review.

Many us corporations have been bullied into compliance by Democrats since the Clinton years. Failure to comply comes at a heavy price, while obeying has paid big rewards. Meanwhile the Gop has lost the corporate base it once ruled. If you think about it, you can’t blame these corporations from doing the obvious. The GOP has done nothing to stop it.

How many years can this go on? 5? 10? 20? Two entities with as good as limitless funds.

Excellent post.

Did you read the book, “Shakedown”?

It’s about how Jesse Jackson welded his political power. It explains a lot about democratic party politics.

Probably a shot across the bow of social media. Google has more power than people realise.

A lot of phones, such as mine, are completely dependent on chrome.

I’d love to free myself from Google Chrome, but for now I have to assume that they my know everything I do.

Yeah, Jesse Jackson and Rainbow coalition turned Nike as one of their first victims if I recall correctly.

A few board seats here, there, some eeoc mandating, pc rules to get select people fired and replaced..

Then use Goldman Sachs to create companies from thin air, use techniques to get unprofitable companies using zero profit margins to become mega corps... all with liberal activists..

Use govt action with green energy to create corpotout of thin air...

Google and Amazon are two such companies. They are destroyers of Capitalism.

I know a lot of people hate Microsoft, but I’ve been using Windows phones since their release. My current is about six years old, and is just starting to have compatibility issues, primarily with apps and websites where apps are available, like reddit (strictly for video games, and I lurk, not post).

I wish they’d have kept with it. They were ahead of the curve for awhile, but nobody developed apps for them.

Gee, I wonder why? Perhaps Google and Apple didn’t want another competitor?

I heard a lot of bad things about Twitter and steered clear. Well, since I’m Google dependent anyway (but I use duckduckgo as much as possible), I went ahead and tried Twitter. It rocks.

I like here too though. A LOT more organized. Great people too although some are rather militant sounding.

I don’t think I can link pages from here (to there) because I might be tagged as promoting terrorism. Yeah, horrible double standard. Makes me feel like I’m part of a lower caste.

And that is just one problem with social media. Like the way they treat Trump. Yeah, Twitter is useful to him but they never tested Obama they way they do Trump.

By the way it took several clicks to follow Trump. The first time I tried I was automatically unfilled too. But, it took less than a minute of persistence. Well worth it. All in all, glad there is a Twitter.

Even worse than Twitter is Facebook. But that place is a REAL mess anyway. Armies of people giving thumbs up all day.

The way I figure it, if you're online for anything there's a record of it somewhere.. And even if you don't have or use a computer your bank and businesses you use are all online with your information. Whatever browser you use isn't going to prevent your information from being out there.

I don't use a cell phone nor do I use GPS because at least in my vehicle I'm on my own detached pretty much.

Google is the devil.

For *years*, via good and effective meta tags, keywords and such, I managed to keep our home business site at the top of the hits every time.

Then google started the “pay to play” website ranking and we just don’t have the thousands to buy a spot at the top like other bigger companies do.

And our business tanked and we’re barely scraping by, now when we used to have people waiting in line for trike kits a year or more.

The department also is examining Google’s online advertising practices…

This is where the real crimes are, and where Google makes all it’s money.

“I’d love to free myself from Google Chrome”

I think you might be mixing things up there. Chrome is a browser made by Google, you don’t have to use it; there are a number of web browsers you can use instead.

But maybe you meant the operating system of some devices - phones, tablets, etc - the operating system is called Android (made by Google). That’s what stores all your info and spies on you.

“a little late, no?”

My big beef with the Admin - the sluggishness in taking solid action makes a snail look like the Roadrunner.
It gets too late to really do anything and whatever the situation, it just gets worse - but maybe an Exec Order is tossed out to try to compensate/address the issue as a stopgap measure.
