Long Island Sound bacteria entering wounds, causing rare illness in Connecticut
WABC ^ | Sep 15, 2020

Posted on 09/15/2020 8:48:43 PM PDT by BenLurkin

Five cases of Vibrio vulnificus infections have been reported since July, with patients from Fairfield, Middlesex and New Haven counties between the ages of 49 and 85. Four were male and one female.

Two patients had septicemia, an infection of the bloodstream, while three had serious wound infections.

All five patients were hospitalized, and all five cases reported exposure to salt or brackish water during activities such as swimming, crabbing, and boating.

All five patients had pre-existing wounds or sustained new wounds during these activities, which officials say led to the Vibrio infections.

Vibrio vulnificus infection is an extremely rare illness, with just seven such infections reported in Connecticut between 2010 and 2019.

Anyone headed to Long Island Sound is urged to cover any wounds, recent piercings or new tattoos with waterproof bandages and wash them thoroughly with soap.

this is one of those that will kill you fast, relatively speaking

on the par with the stuff in brackish waters that cause the necrotizing fasciitis or the nematodes that get into your brain via water up the nose and kill you

Perhaps...but your death certificate will still say COVID-19.

I think it would be safe to assume the water just offshore a vile stinking mass of retched humanity would be up to the rafters with pathogens. But hey, that’s me.

Yep, but I am sure this Vibrio vulnificus outbreak near there is just a coincidence, just like West Nile and Hanta Virus outbreaks and the emergence of Lyme Disease near Plum Island were also coincidences

No where near the New Haven, CT area.

Probably a sewage issue along the CT coastline.

There’s a lot of garbage that seems to settle along Long Island Sound. I was at the beach with my daughter and father about 15 years ago. We were in the water up to our knees for a hour. The next day we all had an itchy rash on our legs and feet. The doctor thought it came from bacteria from all the geese shit washing into the water from nearby areas.

Anybody who goes swimming off the coast of any state south of Maine and north of Virginia is out of their mind... The industrial sludge of chemical and human waste dumped by states like New Jersey, New York and Maryland is a toxic ooze of humanity’s worst excrement for the past century, and don’t even dream of swimming in a lake anywhere in that vicinity either.... I.E. When they post signs saying ‘Swim at your own risk’.... They mean it.

Conn....then.there's the former GOP Senator Lowell Weicker of Watergate fame, first to turn against Nixon, later CT gov. The darling of Dems.

Apparently at 88, he's still sticking his oar in to denounce President Trump....from Dec 2019:

“I think he’s a disgrace,” Weicker said of President Donald Trump. “His overall performance and statements are not to be believed.”

Most people assume Trump will run in the 2020 election, but Weicker doesn’t make that assumption.

“He doesn’t want to lose,” said the former governor, now 88 years old.

“I suspect you’ll find if he runs he’ll be defeated in the next election,” Weicker said.

Weicker, a longtime Republican, became an independent “more than a decade ago,” he said, because the party went “way off to the right.
