Great series. The level of detail covered is outstanding and the fact that the whole thing is covered in a linear sequence rather than being broken up from one front to the next gives you a great overview of how events in one theater affected events in other theaters.

Japan was not fighting “trying to defeat the Soviet Union.” Japan and the USSR had a neutrality pact that kept them from fighting each other until mid 1945, when the USSR saw the opportunity to let the treaty lapse and go for a land grab..
