LONDON (AP) The World Health Organization says a new polio outbreak in Sudan is linked to an ongoing vaccine-sparked epidemic in Chad a week after the U.N. health agency declared the African continent free of the wild polio virus.
In a statement this week, WHO said two children in Sudan one from South Darfur state and the other from Gedarif state, close to the border with Ethiopia and Eritrea were paralyzed in March and April. Both had been recently vaccinated against polio. WHO said initial outbreak investigations show the cases are linked to an ongoing vaccine-derived outbreak in Chad that was first detected last year and is now spreading in Chad and Cameroon.
WHO said it had found 11 additional vaccine-derived polio cases in Sudan and that the virus had also been identified in environmental samples. There are typically many more unreported cases for every confirmed polio patient.
In rare instances, the live polio virus in the oral vaccine can mutate into a form capable of sparking new outbreaks.
Health officials had initially aimed to wipe out polio by 2000, a deadline repeatedly pushed back and missed. Wild polio remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan; both countries also are struggling to contain outbreaks of vaccine-derived polio.

Let's hope the COVID-19 vaccine doesn't end up like this. -Tom
Sounds like the Gates polio vaccine at work again.
Just like India.
“They meant well!”
Yup thats what i was thinking all right.
I can't believe in this day an age they would be using a live virus in any shot or vaccine. - Tom
You are right. The Gates Global Foundation.
Gates?
Sudan is 97% muslim. I’m finding it hard to care.
That's not right. Muslim, or Commie, or AntiFA, or whatever - no one should have their kids paralyzed by poorly designed/administered vaccines/drugs.
I don't know who is at fault, but if this was due to a poorly vetted vaccine - someone needs to be held accountable (held accountable on this side of the grave).
Right. And I trust everything the WHO says
The US has only used IPV since 2000. Why is WHO so outdated?
The oral vaccine has two advantages over the injection one
1. It is way cheaper.
2. It does not need to be refrigerated.
The oral vaccine is perfect for countries without electricity or infrastructure. You can immunize millions of people with the oral vaccine for the cost of only immunizing a few hundred thousand
The problem now is that they gave immunized everyone in Africa so the few deaths that occurred from the oral vaccine are now more than the wild strain, so it looks bad.
There are other, milder but still serious side effects to the polio vaccine for some. Scoliosis is one of them. I know this because a friend and her brother got scoliosis after the vaccine. Then he had children and they got it. No one ever mentions this. What I don’t understand is if you know your disability was caused by a specific vaccine, why would you have your children take it? The brainwashing is strong.
I had crippling polio when I was a kid.
It took me from 6yrs old to 16, exercising every day, to straighten out fatten up, and lengthen my right deformed twisted right leg which is fine to this day.
I joined the Army , Infantry and did as well or better than the other soldiers.
When I was in Korea in the mid 50s, they gave us an oral polio vaccine and I was concerned about side effects since I already had polio as a kid, but the side effects did not occur.
Peoples bodies are all different and will respond sometimes quite differently to any outside intrusions, injected or oral.
Look at the unfortunate people who die from a routine bee sting. - Tom
Interesting timing with the COVID vaccine being released in Russia and expected here soon. Coincidence?
