Non-standard English and a scruffy appearance are big pull-downs for kids who grow up in the hood (and in Appalachia).
Wouldn’t make more sense to teach “Black Language” as a foreign language.
If you are not going to teach Standard English would not we eventually devolve in to something like China where each region would have its own dialect or being a country with multiple entirely different languages?
We need an official standard language to keep the nation unified. We also need a single dominant culture but that is just too politically incorrect for prime time.

BTW, what we think of as "black English" does not come from Africa but rather the British Isles. The use of "be" as a finite verb is one example; "ax" (Chaucerian Middle English) is another.
The early American blacks did not learn English from fellow Africans.

Oh it’s much worse than that. Every once in awhile I’ll read the comments on a FB news article....then go to a commenters page if it catches my eye. Utterly unintelligible. I can’t even understand half of what they’re talking about. I never knew it was that bad but sheesh.

The irony here is that “black English” is the southern dialect that gets demonized and mocked when spoken by whites.
