First Cruise Ship Receives Certification for Infection Prevention

A cruise ship became the first in the world to receive Certification in Infection Prevention for the Maritime industry (CIP-M).

The CIP-M certification of Explorer Dream is timely and in conjunction with Dream Cruises’ recent announcement that Explorer Dream will recommence operations in Taiwan from July 16, 2020 onwards, offering “Taiwan Island-Hopping” itineraries.

Dream Cruises will be the first cruise line in the world to begin sailing after the global cruise industry was shut down due to the pandemic.

With the CIP-M certification program for Explorer Dream, Genting Cruise Lines together with DNV GL are paving the way in introducing new safety standards, customized specifically for the maritime industry, that include enhanced infection prevention control procedures and systems for the safety and well-being of guests and crew members.

During its hiatus period, Genting Cruise Lines has reviewed and bolstered its overall prevention and response plan for the eventual recommencement of its Dream Cruises and Star Cruises ships to ensure the safest environment for guests and crew.

These include stringent health screening processes and protocols such as for embarkation and disembarkation; thorough and higher frequency sanitization, disinfection and enhanced hygiene procedures for guest cabins and public areas; online check-in and boarding at designated times to minimize congestion and onboard venues operating at reduced capacity.

Self-service at F&B buffet restaurants will also be suspended with all food and beverages served by crew wearing face masks and gloves as added precautionary measures.

This voluntary change by a Cruise line and the Maritime Indutry to cruise procedures, to placate health organizations around the world could cause some health organizationss to want even more restrictions.
You know like ,you shot yourself in the foot, but what about the other foot?

It will help ships to get going again ,but I believe it will greatly reduce the number of paying passengers, if this is the new normal.

IMHO some Cruise lines are presently billions in debt, and this will make it possibly impossible to pay off those debts in 2021 - Tom

Your Cruise Fever will be around 101.7 with a dry cough and chills.

Throw in a stomach bug and with the dry heaves.

Add the dude in the leisure suit from Phoenix trying to sell you into a pyramid scheme.

Coffin Ship

Cruise Lines are trying to prevent that ,but since this cruise ship is operating well before our November election, any outbreak of Covid or Noro virus will be sensationalized by our press.- Tom

Is funeral at sea included in the price, or do you got to pay extra?

Exactly correct. Health organizations are only interested in minimizing virus impacts with little or no consideration of other factors. Today’s reaction the CV is very similar to the over-hyped reaction to HIV in the 80s.

This scare-mongering is having an effect. I was informed today that we live in a county that is a CV hotspot. Our county just enacted a mandatory ‘everybody wear a mask’ ordnance. BTW, our county has slightly more than 700 cases and a population of just over 370,000. Do the math. Out of every 1000 people, there are 1.88 that are infected.

You probably know that “Coffin Ship” refers to the ships that brought Irish immigrants to the U.S. and Canada from the 1840s on. They regularly were hit with epidemics of diseases like cholera and typhus, and many of the passengers died.

Some of my ancestors emigrated from Northern Ireland to Canada during the Famine. The family Bible they carried documents the death of several family members from cholera during the voyage.

I to this day can still remember my Irish grandmother in the 1940s made me promise her I would never set foot on a Cunard ship.
And I haven't. -Tom

Before COVID there were a number of investigative journalism reports about how poorly hotel rooms, and presumably cruise ship cabins, were cleaned.

Insufficient and overworked staff didn't have enough time to fully clean rooms so all that happened was a quick wipe, dust and vacuum.

This resulted in a collective EEEEWW! from the traveling public.

Maybe hotel stays and cruises will be more expensive, but maybe everything will be properly cleaned for the first time in decades. They say every cloud has a silver lining.

I gave up on my October cruise, Boston to Bermuda.

Too many cruise ship medical changes coming, and the cruise might get cancelled anyway, since other cruises by the same ship. Norwegian "GEM" have already been canceled in October.-Tom

“Explorer Dream will recommence operations in Taiwan from July 16, 2020 onwards, offering “Taiwan Island-Hopping” itineraries.”

Since Taiwan’s Coronavirus domestic caseload increases by about 1 person every 30 to 60 days (due to their universal mask requirement, obviously), I’d say they’re perfectly safe running boats - providing ONLY Taiwanese crew and passengers are on board.

I really hate unexplained jargon.   I finally figured out that F&B buffet is Food and Beverage buffet.   Why couldn't they just say that?
