A university in southern Utah is considering dropping Dixie from its name amid nationwide protests against racial injustice that have brought a renewed focus on references to the Confederacy. Dixie State University, located about 300 miles south of Salt Lake City, has faced scrutiny in the past over its name but resisted changing. Now, protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody have renewed calls to change the name.

When I was on the campus in 1990, they called themselves the Rebels and use the Confederate battle flag. But they’ve long since gone PC.
Sounds like a lockstep liberal place; I have never heard of this school.
It’s a stupid and confusing name, an area whose only real ties to Dixie are a slave-master who tried to get other people to move there by claiming it would be great for growing cotton, when his real motive was to establish the Mormon church.
In reality, the area is 12 degrees hotter in the mid-day summer than anywhere in Dixie, and gets less than an inch of rain TOTAL during the three, critical Spring-Summer months.
Better names all of which will piss off Antifa: the University of St. George; Zion St. University; St. George State; Virgin Valley State.
They should go totally ridiculous and rename it (temporarily) to Wossamotta U.
