Some local leaders predict that 2021 will be the year that Maryland rids itself of a Confederate-themed state song after nearly half a century of trying.

Driving north out of Baltimore on I95, there is a small ranch house on the right side of highway.
It had flown the Confederate battle flag for at least the last 20 years.
I always smile when I see it. And I am a Yankee.

Maryland is actually a very ‘purple’ state. It’s just that the population concentration in the Baltimore-Washington corridor rules everything, and cuts-out the many Conservatives East and West.
When my family moved from Baltimore, MD to Appomattox, VA in 1961, I used to hear a lot of “yankeeeee” BS directed toward me and my brother. So I took the biggest offender down by the woods at school and beat the crap out of him. As I was working him over, I told him Maryland was full of southern sympathizers. We became best friends.
